95% straight, 5% gay. Maybe 90/10. I could never bring myself to do anything gay. I'm effectively 100% straight, but with some degree of appreciating of the male figure or face or eyes. I don't walk around and go "damn, that's a sexy man." or anything. I've never had any overt sexual thoughts about men. Mmm. Appreciation is the best I could describe it.

I think everyone is at least a little gay. I think people start out as bisexual, like a great deal of mammals in the wild. It's like the Ron White comedy sketch.

I actually considered my sexuality very deeply some years ago. Not just briefly thought about it, not an hour pondering. I spent weeks wondering, and forcing myself to look at and consider things, while trying to block out emotional reactions, and just go for a plain brain/physiological reaction. Do I like this? Could I like this?

I came to the conclusion that I was, indeed, straight. Completely straight. I might be able to look at some guys and recognize how they are good looking, see the appeal women find in them, understand why they are desired... but I feel no such desire, myself.

I have nothing against homosexuality, but I am convinced I am about as close to 100% straight as a guy can be.

Yeah, I've heard similar from guys I know (with no homophobia whatsoever). I feel like men are just more likely to be straight than women, which the poll results are supporting lol. What's the deal with homophobia anyways? Isn't it kind of like when someone opposite sex is attracted to you that you are just not attracted to back?

I also think that women have a greater disposition towards bisexuality, but if a guy says that too loud, all hell breaks loose! lol. I think homophobia is more a disgust in the fact that a person would feel sexual desire for their own gender, and even an underlying hatred for that person. Incest, for lack of a better example, might be a good equivilent. Look at how grossed out, disgusted, upset, and angry people get when incest is brought up. That visceral, emotional reaction that just expresses a complete inability to ever even consider understanding or condoning such a thing. That same gut reaction, aimed at people who are sexually attracted to the same gender, is probably the best way to describe homophobia. If a gay guy hit on me, i might be flattered that he found me attractive, but in the back of my mind, no matter how polite I was to him, there would be an "ick" factor. Not because I think being gay is wrong, but because it is not something I want to be a part of.

I get the being hit on thing, but that pretty much would go the same for anyone that was hit on by someone they weren't interested in for any reason. Like a mix of flattery and no please go away lol. It doesn't really matter if the X factor was sex or gender or socks with sandals. Agreed on women being more likely to be bisexual. I've actually been theorizing on the subject a lot lately when a debate I had with someone about whether or not sexual orientation was a choice forced me to consider something I never really had before about it. I think most of the time when we consider it we are looking at it as though sex is a purely pro-creational fuction for humans, so you get the odd person who was wired backwards or didn't get the genes to differentiate, and there you go. But that's only one part of it. Sex and sexual attraction and intimacy are all important social functions for humans. It's not just about making babies it's about cementing relationships... Men do this with other men typically with physical agression or imposition but women I beleive are more inclined to do these things in the same way with a woman as they would with a man. So women flirt with women to get attention/respect, etc. It's just a personal observance but I feel like it could make sense from an evolutionary perspective.

I agree. sex, as a means to act as a glue, to hold society together, makes sense. And that would also make sense for women to be more likely to be bisexual. In the earliest humans, men provided (hunting) but it was the women who stayed home who built society. It makes sense to me that women would seek physical comfort and support in each other to grow closer and help a society be more stable. I think men didn't need it, because working together in a life-or-death type situation is, in and of itself, a way of bonding. Which is why firemen, police officers, army guys, and men who have just faced life-or-death situations together, in general, seem to bond so close. That does, VERY admittedly, presuppose A LOT about human nature and evolution, so I just view that as an idea that makes sense, to me, and not something I think anyone else should listen to and believe as if it were a confirmed truth.

it sounds like we're coming at this from, at least close to, the same kind of mind set. I also think that, in general, our sexual orientation is just how we are, and not a choice. However, I also think, in general, people have a certain "wiggle room," or flexibility, for their desires to change over time, either do to what one is exposed to influencing one's wants, or a personal choice to pursue a certain thing. And I think, in general, women have a greater range of sexual flexibility then men. And considering males are the "utilitarian" gender, and females are the "objectively beautiful" gender in human gender diamorphism, I think it makes sense that women would have a greater ability to feel desire for other women, whom everyone sees as beautiful, than a man would for a man, as we are not as objectively physically attractive. I mean, even gay men faun over how beautiful women are. That happens for a reason!

And yeah. In the debate it was the other person making the point that sexuality was a choice (which I don't agree with either) and the way he argued it made me realize that there was that wiggle room you're talking about. Having a range of natural sexual interests gives you the opportunity in some ways to "choose" your sexuality from within those interests. My personal feeling is that my own sexuality has never actually changed, although the way that I viewed it has. So I've gone from identifying as straight to indentifying as bisexual but nothing ever actually changed. I was just much more preoccupied with men because I was looking for that to be the attraction that would be there. I also feel much more comfortable being in a relationship with a man, I've never tried to date a woman or been with one that I was that romantically attracted to. I have no idea if that's an inherent thing or it's just easier to not have to deal with a pile of judgmental horse shit.

An interesting conversation, but I don't know where to take it from there lol :) I can say though that I had a bisexual female friend, who had been in a long relationship with another girl, and after a bad break, she swore only guys from then on out. She told me that, while she actually had a physical preference for women, when it came to a relationship, she said she found other girls too petty, and too catty, and she just didn't want to deal with that anymore, so men only from then on out. She actually sounded like a MGTOW LOL! "I know there are good, sane girls out there, but I haven't found any yet, and I'm sick of getting hurt and dealing with their shit." Then, of course, the next two guys she was with were even more emotional headcases than her female ex. Go figure LOL.

I'm really only interested in looking at how sexuality varies between men and women if you are a man or woman or have a sexuality. There is an asexual/results tab which basically serves as other. You can be a rainbow unicorn if you want but it doesn't really affect the trend I'm trying to look at.

I just was anticipating this type of comment and was annoyed in advance lol. Every single person has a completely different sexuality. I'm trying to look at a trend, so for the purposes of that I've chosen categories. Making more categories makes finding a trend harder not easier. Ex. If a women is identifying as androsexual, she can just pick straight or straight bi-curious. It's not about ignoring identies just keeping shit simple lol.

Sexuality is different than race. Race is distinct and has an absolute biologic basis. It's not entirely understood what aspects of sexuality are nature or nurture. As well, sex is binary. Rare few people are born as both. So ignorning gender as an aspect, which of corse it is, kind of like how some people prefer blue eyes over brown, I just want to know how you feel about penis over vagina.

I don't know what you find funny, individuals are different than generalities, I'm attempting to find general trends in sexual orientations not class individuals and broader categories are perfect to do exactly that. It's like terms for womens body types, I'm a rectangle but that doesn't mean I'm actually fucking rectangular. If you make up a bunch of new words to describe indivudual sexualities, it never ends. Every single person would be their own word in their own category.

I don't know about that. I suppose it could be synonymous with bisexual, if a person's sex or gender is irrelevant to you.
