After doing my garden all day, our nasty neighbour came out with hedge cutter and began to cut the hedges that join our houses and within seconds, the path I had just cleaned was covered in twigs and leaves. My neighbour laughed and said 'So sorry I have messed up your path'. I went inside and told Ray (my husband) and he went out and had words with neighbour. They argued a little and my husband said 'You ain't worth it to him and walked back in telling me to come back inside also. I stayed and said to him 'Tell me why you hate us, we have never done a thing to you,' there was a bit of back and forth arguing when i told him he needed to get a life and he lunged at me with the chainsaw still going holding it out in front of him as though threatening to use it. I stood my ground and he backed iff but then he grabbed his penis (which I could see pretty clearly through his thin track bottoms and no underwear it seemed. He then thrust it towards me and said 'Suck my fucking cock.' I ran inside knowing that Ray had heard but he done nothing, just continued to watch tv. My son said 'Dad did you not just hear what he said to Mum.' Ray just calmly said 'Well i told her to come in, she shouldn't of kept it going, it only makes things worse not better.' I feel so alone and totally worthless and I need advice as I am seriously thinking about leaving him as I do most of the housework on my own and he knows I am in agony with damaged spine and carpel tunnel in both hands that is severe. I am exhausted doing all the cleaning, laundry, windows, both gardens, i decorate as well as jet wash conservatory and paths. 
I could go on but i fear i will bore you all. 
I am sorry, I am just eager to get some support as I cannot go on any longer. Ray is controlled by fear. He fears everyone and what they can do to us if we fight back.

Your neighbor isn't rational, therefore you were wasting your time trying to have a rational conversation with him. Your husband obviously figured that out quickly and gave up, but you kept going - essentially you set yourself up for this. The neighbor was just being a jerk to get a reaction from you, and your husband realizes this - maybe he likes to sue people who physically retaliate, or maybe he just enjoys causing confrontations.

Anyway, confronting him isn't the answer - ignoring him is. Follow your husband's lead and just forget about this neighbor and ignore him as best you can. He'll continue to try to provoke you, but don't take the bait. Call the cops if you need to, but do NOT try to take things into your own hands, or you'll just give this guy exactly what he wants.

He has a point in not arguing back, this guy loves the confrontation and has nothing better to do in his life. Don't rise to his words or actions just ignore him and laugh at him. I think that if he doesn't support you at all, and if after maybe talking to him about this, you should consider your options about leaving him. Relationships are two sided.

Call the cops or authorities. Tell them about the situation, he may not have done anything now, but he did threaten you with a dangerous weapon. I totally understand how you feel your husband should've done or said something, but at the same time it's not wise to go up against a potential maniac with a weapon. If nothing else, perhaps the cops can look into his past.

Excuse my language, but fuck that! Ray needs to quit acting like a scared little bitch and fight that piece of shit neighbor. For your husband to straight up abandon you when you needed him and then blame the neighbor‘s actions on you is completely unacceptable. Ray is setting a terrible example for your son and he’s demonstrating that he’s 100% a genuine loser.
Anyway: since your neighbor claims not to give a shit about anything, it’s time to start documenting everything he does, and get real friendly with the local cops. Even though I honestly despise the majority of the police force, they do have a purpose and one of their main tasks is to protect. Now you definitely feel threatened and afraid that your neighbor can and will (not might but will) cause you physical harm. I would report his actions the next time he says anything, make sure you’re the one making these requests, not your neighbor calling the cops on you.
And in the meantime, start fucking with him in secret. Throw fire ants on his property, Krazy glue across his windshield, turn off his water (adjust the mechanisms in street grates and along fences), play loud music at 2-4am: just leave an old boom box on full volume in a hidden spot in his yard or just under his bedroom window. He needs to be annoyed and pissed off even moreso. And whenever you see him, don’t fall into his bs; instead smile, wish him a great day, slip in a bless your heart every time he says something stupid, and ignore his dumbass. Then tell Ray that the two of them can go hang out together.

There are ways and there are ways. I honestly don't think that I could let that one go. The chainsaw threat would be enough to kill the guy in self defense. "I'm sorry officer but he came at my wife with a weapon so I shot him before he could hurt her." It only takes 6oz of pull to send a guy like that to hell.
