It is weird in the sense that it certainly isn't very common. It's not the oddest thing I've heard of, but then again, I've heard of some pretty odd things (like balloon and car fetishes lol)
It sounds a bit like you've been inadvertently been conditioned into a fetish. Scientifically speaking, it'd be Fetishistic Disorder. (By definition, that is "sexual arousal from either the use of nonliving objects or highly specific focus on nongenital body part (s)." In this case, that = nails)
How did this happen? Well, it can happen in different ways. There are different theories. The main one is conditioning.
With conditioning, it is possible if you become sexually aroused and then nails get paired at the same time (like you see your girl bite her nails or at they're in the presence of your arousal). The arousal than becomes transferred over to the nails. It's sexual conditioning and develops over time. This would account for your original annoyance and then turn on with it.
If it was a conditioned fetish such as this, there is a chance you can actually get rid of it. If you don't encourage it, it will theoretically disappear of time.
So essentially, you'd have to stop encouraging it during sex and also try and probably get her to stop. In a worst case scenario, it becomes into something like partialism (meaning you'd focus on her nails at the exclusion of the whole. You'd need the nails for arousal.) But it may not develop into anything more, and if you and your partner are fine with it, that's alright (except for her nail biting being very harmful. That's not alright)
If it causes severe problems in your relationship however, you can get treatment for it. She sounds like she doesn't care, so I won't go much into detail about treatment.
With all that being said, nail biting is a verrry bad habit. It raises exposure to cold/illness along with swelling/pain/discomfort via infection (paronychia) on the hand itself. Bacteria love and thrive in nails and sticking that into your mouth is bad. You can also get warts on your fingers

There was actually a case of a guy who had a long-blonde hair fetish. Now, being attracted to hair sounds normal, but this guy had a situation where the only way he could orgasm was by the girl rubbing her blonde hair on his penis. This dude actually got it from his childhood, where he would take his sister's barbies and rub the hair on his penis. (Hence fulfilling the condition requirements of arousal + object) He was able to get treatment however (via therapy), and was able to behave normal sexually thence-after. The point: he had quite a severe case formed all the way from childhood but was able to fix it, so I'm sure you'll be able to undo this less severe case :) .

That's really bad. Like you seriously need to look up all the ways that she's destroying her hands and exposing herself to serious long term health risks.
You need to channel that into something more productive that doesn't hurt her.

I'm a female who bites my nails bad and my husband gets onto me and tells me to stop biting them every chance he gets and I could not imagine him asking me to do this ! it is a little odd but hey I have heard of a lot weirder things !!
