Most men would rape if they knew they could get away with it?

This is something I've seen on some sites with rape statistics. I forget what the number is, but most of them claim that a high number of men would still rape if they knew they could get away with it. Guys, what do you think? Do you think this is true?

  • What study was this?

Who was surveyed? Islamic State personnel? How were the survey-takers selected out of the entire global male population (in every country, region, language, culture, subculture, generation, etc.) to ensure that the results are representative? What was the sample size?

Who did the study? Some militant Feminist think thank/special interest group? A famous survey firms or 2? Multiple law-enforcement agencies across the globe? National statistics authorities in various nations?

Is there a copy of the survey questions to examine? How were they phrased? What definition of "rape" was used? Was it explicitly mentioned?
Where are the statistical results posted? Some no-name, man-hating website?

Was this study done only once or was it tried by others (esp. in differing conditions) and confirmed time &time again, each time being further clarified and sharpened into an increasingly accurate explanation of male behavior?

Numbers can be made to lie, intentionally or unintentionally. They can also be easily made up.

  • It is absolutely false, rape is a psychological abnormality based on power dynamics and lack of control. Many of these statistics are based on a skewed definition of "rape." When you define rape as copping a cheap feel, or stealing a kiss then EVERYONE is a potential rapist men and women. But actual, forceful, unwanted sexual assault is a rare thing and men and women are just as likely to be the perpetrators of this as the other (Source www.usatoday.com/.../) But there is a media campaign, government sponsored, that paints men as aggressive and inherently dangerous. You see this in such things as this statistic, and the "don't be that guy", or "teach boys not to rape", etc etc. This is nothing but pure propaganda, I'll let you think it through to it's logical conclusion.

    • YES, that is especially true on the media campaign!

  • It's difficult to answer. I do believe that there something innate about not wanting to impose suffering onto another person. To still keep going when someone is crying and screaming takes a special kind of crazy. You would think.

Fact is that we know that how men see rape depends largley on their upbringing. If you've been told all your life that women have no worth or that women do this or that are asking for it you are more likley to rape and not punish rape.
Which is why guys sympathise rapist, where the rape was maybe not your ideal back alley violent assault type of thing, but rather that she was passed out or that they were already making out.

If lived in a society in which men could get away with rape, then def more would. We know this because in situations in which men could get away with rape, they did. After wars for example. My great grandmother lived in berlin at the end of ww2 and she said that herself and every girl she knew was raped by the russian occupiers the first few months after war.

    • i see rape as torture, it is pure evil.

    • Mmmmmm... doesn't entirely add up. Wartime rape is usually opportunistic and systematic on a wide scale thing, not simply because male soldiers can get away with it. Since most rape victims don't really talk about who raped them, you could argue that men can already get away with it then and should be raping more, if we really knew we could pull it off with no consequences.

    • even if you can get away with it, it dont see why i personally would want to do it.

  • I don't think this is true. Psychologically rape is proven to be driven from violence, not directly just sexual desire. I don't believe men are such neanderthals that they'd rape a woman if they thought no one would find out.

Unless we're trying to say all men are mentally ill, violent fucks.

    • While some men aren't, 80% would do it if they knew they could get away with it. I wouldn't, and when some of my friends made rape comments while drunk I was schocked when becoming an adult. But now I know men, unfortunately they are the sad truth. I ain't like that though, I don't like hurting females.

    • @yucel_eden 80% where'd you come up wtih that number. sounds like the barney stinson fallback fake statistic

    • @madhatters4 I feel the same.

  • that's pretty much the same as saying women would rape if they couldn't get pregnant.. most men would say they'd do it, but saying it and actually doing it are two completely different things, so you can't say all men would do it if they could, because not all will actually do it.

    • Hey, that's a pretty good point.

    • A smart answer :o like a rare pokemon these days

    • in fallout 4.. everyone is a poke.. i mean.. nukamon >:)

  • No. I wouldn't. And guys who would are scumbags.

I think there is a very important difference between a question like this and something like "would you rob a bank if you knew you wouldn't get caught?" in that rape has both immediate and long term consequences on the victim. I would never wish those upon anyone.

The same goes for questions like "would you kill if you could get away with it?" Hell. No. The act of "getting away with it" doesn't negate the fact that you just killed somebody. Not to mention the incredible feelings of guilt that most normal people would feel.

  • I highly doubt most or many would.
Sex, contrary to popular belief, is more about violence than sex.

And also contrary to popular belief, many men seem to not like a dead fish woman, so a screaming unresponsive or crying partner seems even less appealing (would it even stay up like that?). And aside from the few weirdos who are into that, not many men like it.
Yes, there are some people who are into extreme domination, rough sex fantasies (aka "rape" fantasies), but even then, they KNOW their partner is enjoying it and wants it. Obviously, in rape they're not and they know it.

I don't know. I don't think the number would greatly decrease, a number yes, high number? Don't think so.

    • I think my dick would be limp as a worm if some is screaming and hollering while I'm trying to do it. It would be impossible.

    • Even then, not all victims scream. Some just shut down. Others break down and cry the whole time. Others beg to stop. I don't see how anyone other than some sadists can enjoy it.

  • I only know about a study where more guys would rape if they didn't know it was rape. As in, when asked a large number of university male students if they would rape, about 8% of the guys said yes. But when they got the definition of rape in the question (but not the word itself) it became 13%. Still a low number but the results aren't pretty good if you ask me.
However, I don't think that most men would rape if they were to get away with it.
    P. S.: I would link that study but I read it too long time ago to remember the source.

    • The problem with college studies is that using uni students is never a good gauge. Rapes happen in uni, so I might expect 13% of guys to be okay with that.

  • i don't think it's true... man i hope it's not true

    • I don't think it is either.

  • I can believe that saying for dudes that act shitty.

  • Um... I doubt it.

  • I'm very sympathetic with people, and if they said it hurts or that they don't wanna do it, I'd stop immediately... I know I wouldn't want someone to carry on when I felt uncomfortable with it... I'd never rape anyone... Even if I knew that I could get away with it...

  • I seriously doubt it.

  • Rape is always about power and control and less to do with actual sexual gratification I think.

  • Bullshit, a man who has any decency wouldn't do it, because they know it is hurting another's life in so many ways. Would you kill someone if you could get away with it 100%? Everyone would say: "yeah!" Until it comes time to taking the weapon, and doing the job. Everyone talks big until they're forced into the situation in real life.

    • plus I doubt anyone would kill someone if they got away with it too.

    • Good point!

    • I did my honours in biochemistry, and my supervisor would constantly complain about the dissimilarities between 100% anonymous tests compared to interview based ones. People would rate themselves WAY better on anonymous tests when compared to interview ones. People would also say they would do X OR have done X way more on anonymous tests than on interview. People just lie about everything even to themselves.

  • (laughing) Men have NEVER been monsters to me.

  • I wouldn't. I have no interest in having sex with someone who won't enjoy it and isn't interested.

  • it's total bullshit. 100% Misandry.

  • Rape is never an option and anyone thinking it is right should be locked away from decent society for good..

  • I speak for myself so NO I wouldn't.
I don't even know why people rape (actual rapes and the kind of rapes that mostly happen in my country), because its definitely nothing like sex for sure where both people are enjoying each other.

  • There's no way to know for sure. It's speculation at best.

  • Hell no. Most important thing for me is her enjoyment. Rape isn't enjoyed by them xD

  • I highly doubt it. Men are the ones who created laws to protect women.

    • That ALSO is a good point.

  • definate no no from me, can@t see the pleasure in hurting someone or forcing someone, mutual pleasure for me

  • This is the unfortunate truth for many but not all men.

    • You think so?

    • Yeah. Like some of my friends hint. With jokes and explicitly while drunk. While some have actually done a few things with drunken girls in Greece which I would even call it close to rape. the reason is the law is softer their and their all tourists, in England they behave as their is more order

    • Yeah but that's usually gonna be the case with men from wealthier nations going to places like Greece, and even Africa.
