What are your feelings about the Old Navy ad with an interracial family?

The ad was simply supposed to promote a sale — 30 percent off an entire Old Navy purchase. But some took the ad, which featured an interracial family, to promote a larger message on race.

  • Little sad people noticed it. Like, why do we give a fuck anymore? It's a family. If people are going to be like that with my boyfriend and I there are going to be a lot of black eyes.

Where I work, there aren't interracial couples. The blacks stay with the blacks, and the Hispanics stay with the Hispanics. When I showed one of the little girls a picture I had a boyfriend, she was like "He's Chinese?" and was kinda confused. I'm ok with that. It's just new to them. What I don't like is the bigots in MY town who complain I'm ruining the white race.

BAD NEWS, BIGOTS: This is what the real world is like. People will love who they want to love, have families with them. It's been happening for years and years and years.

    • well said!

    • has it been successful? What is the rate of divorce? I actually dont know?

    • Of course it's been happening for years and I don't know anyone who has ever suggested trying to stop such things. However, it is quite patent that advertisers are using this to appeal to the PC compliant crowd to boost their sales and the PC compliant sheep are following.

  • I heard about this controversy. Knowing that people are bothered by interracial families makes me sad.
Why can't just some people understand that interracial families are just like any other family?
Why they can't just understand that love has no color?´
There are worse things happening around the world and some people are worried about an ad?
It's a shame that this will always be a problem to some people. Wish I could change that.

  • This isn't new (this ad obvious is, but there are others like it). Old Navy has been showing interracial families in ads and all over their website for the past few years. Honestly, I ignore the hateful comments because I know the majority of people are not that crazy. That's what the internet does: Draw out the crazies and people who will say something insane for attention.

  • looks like my friends family... with 2 beautiful children.
its part of NY... all mixed

    • Thank you fot MHO

  • I think it's fine I don't have any strong opinion, but we see it everyday whats the difference if it's on an ad.

  • People who have a problem with the ad are obviously idiots, but I don't think the company is some kind of crusader for justice. They show models of different races so that the company can market to as many customers as possible. This looks like an old story though because those are spring/summer clothes in the photo.

  • I think it's great and don't see a problem with it at all.

  • I think its a ad... thats the problem everyone has got there cheeky bum all in knots and social media has taken it to the extreme

  • I like it. But the kid looks black. The could have at least gotten a mixed kid even if they where hispanic. I hate it when they feature mixed kids but they end up being black

    • Adoption is a thing that exists. Stepchildren are also a thing that exists.

    • @ somebodysaycheese blacks have the dominate genes My son looks like he is from South America. I am Chinese and his father is white.

    • @3336PS my half brother looks latin too but i came out totally Asian (we're both half)

  • It depends on where you live that affects the way you look at it. In NJ, that wouldn't phase anyone... there are plenty of different races/ ethnicities dating around here.

The people that Hate race mixing are actually supporting... inbreeding as there aren't many "different" families of white people.

I think you could understand it by looking at dog breeds... the "Pure breeds" die the fastest, have the most health issues and the Mutts live the longest.

  • Lmao, this poor racist. Who's gonna tell him that interracial couples exist in real life? Gawd bless his heart

  • Okay? If my great grandparents weren't interracial... my grandmother wouldn't have existed...
Interracial dating happens ALL THE TIME. It's no big deal now...

  • I mean... white people date and marry poc all the time. I don't find it really revolutionary. Maybe if this was some years back like in the 80's or 90's maybe. But NONETHELESS, good on oldnavy.

  • It's just an ad. There has been countless ads that have interracial couples and families, so they are far from the first.

  • such a revolutionary and edgy ad. very politically correct. social justice is so very cool nowadays.

    • There's nothing edgy about it. It's perfectly normal. If he was green with antennae that would be edgy.

    • @Intraluminal they do this on purpose because SJWing is a fad. They appeal to whats popular and attempt to make a bold statement to provoke people, thus it is edgy.

  • No one cares. Anyone who tries to say something about it are in the severe minority. Don't try perpetuating false controversies.

    • this

  • How the fuck does this equate to pedophilia? Those people are insane. I have no problem with this ad and anyone that does is extreme racist

  • the highest divorce rate of any demographic is when white women marry black men. By year 11 nearly 100% of these marriages have been dissolved.

I dont know what is right or wrong, but this is just what the data tells us

    • And marriages between white men and black women have far FEWER divorces than any other arrangement and this pairing is among the highest wage earners.

    • @wc444 how many of those are there? I think this has happened about 4 times in recorded history. lol, just kidding but it is very uncommon. Your info on the earnings being a factor does make sense

    • Um my daddy is white

  • Damn. Well she's just ignorant.

  • So what.. I saw the ad. Just a commercial. People always have to make a political issue about everything.

    • ''you are a traitor to your own race! i'll see you mutilated and your wife and children burn for this this heresy!''

    • acting/joking.

  • The fact that it's a big deal whether it's negative or positive shows we're all still pretty racist.

  • Old navy isn't kicking down barriers. They are recognizing that their demographic is going to react positively.

That tells you what mainstream culture is approving perhaps to the point of being actively supportive (noticing and being pleased by the depiction) and the few ranting online are the drawn out whining of an increasingly narrow fringe.
