Why are women into 50 shades of grey?

I don't get it. Why are (some/many) women creaming their panties on 50 shades of grey? It's about a (dumb) girl and a rich and successful and a good looking guy, who owns a company, who is also abusive and blackmailing her. I mean is it because of the fact that Christian is a success billionaire with power, that makes women horny? Because it totally seems so. If Christian was just a middle class citizen or someone, who lives in a trailer or with his parents, then he would be a "creep". Are these women really by their nature to some degree or sub-consciously gold diggers? Or is this supposed to be their fantasy like porn is for us men? Serious question!

This is how women are being objectified. You either object yourself or you stand up for yourself. Your calls.

  • The main reason is like how majority of people read such books: Lust, sex, and the details that make a person want to have sex or masturbate too. That's it. The whole idea is objectifying Christian's persona and character not him as a person. He got money, lots of it. But that is just part of the fantasy many women are into. If a REAL life man can do all of the things that Christian does and IS as a person without the abuse, many women will trade their boyfriends or husbands in a heartbeat. It is very unrealistic. And it says a lot about the kind of person these women are. I have never read it, nor do I want to. It sicking just listening to an insert of the book when I was minding my business in youtube. I think it was from the Fine Brothers with the Elders if I'm not mistaken. But that is the reason why. This is not romance, but sick twisted fantasy about rape and idolize + romanticized abuse! Sadly it puts so much pressure on men to be like that, and any guy who's with such a person who pressures that needs to run away asap. It shouldn't even be on the shelves but it is. Its porn and brainwashing material. But since it is, its on the shelves to cater what?: Pornographic images to get into your brain and brainwash. That's the goal and the job. And this author is also 'supposedly' a Christian. Another major red flag.

    • "If a REAL life man can do all of the things that Christian does and IS as a person without the abuse, many women will trade their boyfriends or husbands in a heartbeat." That's where I have trust issues with women :/ but since it's almost unrealistic, there's nothing to worry about it BUT it's still something to keep our guards up. Yep. Good points!

  • First, i have to ask, did you read the books? Or was it just the movie or movie trailors?
Second, my opinion, I don't believe that Christian is abusive. For some Dom/sub relationships is really a lifestyle. Some women really do get off to being spanked and tied up.
Ana was inexpierence and Christian was the first guy aside from Jose that openly persued her. Girls like to be persued and for it to be the first person a girl has feelings for we usually try to do everything we can for that person. She just wanted to be with him and that included his sexual desires. It is the lifestyle that I fell in love with and have since tried to find men who also enjoyed it. If they would have kept the storyline and made Christian just another everyday guy I would have still went crazy over the books and movie bc they were truly well written.

    • Except that wasn't the case here. She was actually afraid of him and was trying to get away from him. She had no one to talk to and he threatened her, isolated her from her family, and controls all of her actions and she actually DIDN'T want him to. Let me ask you... Have YOU read the books?

    • No and I do not plan to waste my time on that. I have read the plot about it to get a sufficient image of it.

    • @LadyTerror I have several times actually and never once did I feel he was abusive towards her. That was a lifestyle that he knew. She wasn't afraid of him until SHE ASKED HIM TO PUNISH HER LIKE HE WANTED. That was when she left. He told her what he wanted from her and she stayed thinking that she could have a normal relationship with him. He never told her she couldn't see her family. He went to Florida when she was with her mom bc he felt like he was losing her not bc he wanted to scare her or control her. He didn't want her talking to anyone about the relationship bc he didn't want the media knowing his personal life. He offered to let her talk to Elena and she chose not to bc she didn't like what she made him. He only wanted control over her, he never really got it.

  • Mate! Don't think so! I'm a girl and agree with you.
Anyways I think most women are into stuff like this because they feel repressed. You know girls often are more closed-minded than boys, so their mind become more and more perverted, so they like anything of the sexual kind! Even if it's rubbish!
A good reader don't read this book, but nowadays this kind of reader is almost died. People don't care anymore about quality, so anythink is okay. But to tell the truth I still ask why this rubbish is popular. 50 shades of gray's fans enjoy so much this book because they feel so horny and repressed? Someone accounts for this! I don't get it! I really don't! Just don't add up in this case.
It's hilarious too because 50 shades of gray is twilight's fanfiction!

    • Phew! At least people like you are normal. We guys get the feel like we're not good enough because we are not rich and good looking and bosses like christian grey because some women get horny of this kind of fantasy. Glad there are women out there, who think it's too freaking retarded.

    • You don't have to worry. I mean only stupid girls like this stuff. The intelligent ones prefer another kind of book like Jacqueline Wilson's.

    • That's relieving. Thank you :)

  • Huahhahaha... your comments are really funny.
In my opinion, yes there are several factors such as money, power, great look.
I myself am so aware and admit that the movie 100% sucks. BUT what makes me still want to continue to watch the sequel, bcoz Christian give the girl the i-fucking-want-you move. He is ambitious and dominating, and it is very2 sexy , and umm yes honestly with his perfect background too.. (i know it is superficial. But sorry to say women loves dreaming like this, thats been always our fantasy)

    • Ow... other reasons that i still wanna watch it. Because i really like the girls face, she is pretty. And christians body looks soo... hot :D , plus i just like seeing the fancy & elegant stuffs, dresses, etc shown in the movie. Its like an eye vacation..

    • Speak for yourself.

    • I agree with @Aidelwaish and the "i-fucking-want-you move" and the ambitious and dominating part too. But I'm not into that all 50 shades of whatever. I watched the movie... in 5 mins lol XD

  • It's like a fantasy, but your arguments are pretty valid. She's only in love because he's this unatainable guy that could get anything in the world (money, power, an army of horny women, just name it) but he wants this girl who is supposedly an average not-particularly-special girl, who just so happens to frequently be described as literate, with good taste, and good looks and a girl-next-door attitude - which essentially means she is already well above average by most men's standards. I read the first book to see what the fuss was all about. Full of shit. It is Twilight with an extremely light version of what is supposed to be S&M - which essentially makes it roleplaying, but not S&M lol.

    • Well that's just awful man.

    • What's really awful is her relationship with a friend of hers - dont even remember the name of the character. The protagonist has a male friend who she's known for years and he's really into her, but she's not into him at all even tough he supposedly has everything a girl would want. As you'd expect, the guy pursues her and he gets really anxious with the whole Christian Grey "CEO/billionaire/playboy/helicopter pilot" thing going on. There's a whole 'night at the bar' part that pretty much exists to show how this guy is stupid for pursuing her. It's really sad. This is a woman literally feeling pity for a 'nice guy' she just 'friendzoned'.

    • Yeap! So in conclusion if you want a girl, start to look like Christian Grey, be filthy rich, have status and all that stuff, that is nearly impossible to achieve unless you make it deliberately to your purpose of life just because you'd want another human of the opposite sex, like they have nothing to put up with in their life but to look above 5/10. And then treat her like trash. It makes me lose faith in humanity. Switch the sides, it ain't so hard but they would have to find a good guy out of the bunch of players, who are only there to hit it and run.

  • It's because a vast number of women are closet sexual submissives and this series let that cat out of the bag. When I was dating, I was active in the BDSM scene and had a reputation for "kinkifying" vanilla women, showing the "dark side." Virtually without exception, they were into it big time when I wanted to spank them and restrain them and have my evil way with them.

  • I'm not a fan but the book did bring something new to the table. Most things concerning sex are in men's preference. Not that all women like this kind of sex thing but the point is in the women's pov. Also the story is very psihological if you think of it and not make it just superficial as the sex book.

  • Ugh I have so much hate for this thing. The books are terribly written, and the movie was sooooo boooring. I don't understand why so many girls are into it either. I'd rather read My Little Pony.

    • My Little Pony <3 :D Agreed. That book is just blurgh!

  • I have no idea, honestly the book makes me angry. I've never read it and never will but I've had enough people talk to me about it so I know what it's about. It seems to me it gives an unrealistic view on sex for the reader and more pressure on men to live up to that expectation.

    • You bet! I get the very same impression as you have, especially your finishing sentence!

    • The book was bad enough and now they are making movies of it. -_- Did you hear they are coming out with fifty shades darker now? Joy...

    • Oh hell nahw! This is just plain retarded and I don't want to go any deeper than I have.

  • #NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    • No what?

  • That movie sucks. bad actors (Jamie whatever and someone else who's so bad I don't know her name), a dumbass plot, and a horrible crew (minus Danny elfman which is why the music is good). The only women who like it are women who don't have a sex life and need one to live.

    • I think that last statement is too extreme, don't you think? At least, the illogical women are into it or just women with some kind of a weird fetish :o

    • Even if you have that fetish there is porn for that. That movie wasn't porn it was just bad acting and stupid love scenes. I think my statement is 100% correct.

  • Yes it's because he is billionaire, but it's also because he is good looking (at least in the movie) and because many women are submissive, to different extents.

    • Haha, they even mention Fifty Shades of Grey in the Literature part in Tv Tropes. "In Fifty Shades of Grey, Christian Grey's unparalleled hotness is often sufficient to make Ana forget about his latest bout of physically harming her, stalking her, bullying her into doing what he wants, etc. As one meme points out, "If Christian Grey was ugly and living in a trailer , it would be an episode of Criminal Minds.""

    • Totally! Some women like those are just ugh! Unless there is a proper explanation, which is lacking.

  • it was a terrible book.. my curiosity made me waste so much time reading it ugh

  • I never understood it either!

    • So I understand, that you are not into that kind of stuff. Is that correct?

    • I don't want to become anybody's slave no. Rough sex is nice, but not with all that toys, etc.

  • Honestly, the only thing I like about 50 Shades of Grey is the cover song Crazy in Love.

  • A false sense of what romance is maybe? I don't know... the book was pretty bad and the movie worse... but glancing over some girls comments I guess I can see why they do. But obviously there are thousands of better books out with romance and sex.

  • Same reason why they think Miranda is funny.

  • In watched it and I didn't like it much.

  • You read into it way too much. It's just a movie (a book). For what reason you start comparing an alternate dimension to reality, I can't understand.

    • Many of us have an imagination of "the perfect partner" and for many women it seems to be this Christian Grey dude. It's saddening, that they get super excited and horny over someone like that in my opinion. Guy like him CAN and maybe even DO exist but we don't know any. "If a REAL life man can do all of the things that Christian does and IS as a person without the abuse, many women will trade their boyfriends or husbands in a heartbeat." That's what I'm afraid of and get trust issues with women.

    • the many of you is delusional. Your concerns are baseless. Your trust issues are your problem.

    • We're not "delusional". We just know, what we want in a partner. But yes, everything else is correct. However my concern is still not going to vanish until I am proven otherwise :o

  • the funny thing i see women bashing porn
yet prasing 50 sheds of grey

    • Outstanding observation!

    • like 50 shades of grey is some fine art if i have a copy of the book used it as toilet paper :p

    • Careful! Those pages can bite and slap your ass out of abuse :P

  • I honestly never understood it either.

    • So I understand, that you are not into that kind of stuff. Is that correct?

    • I am into BDSM and I'm both a dom and a sub (but leading more to the dom side), but that's only limited to the bedroom. I don't follow the whole lifestyle. But either way, Christian Grey sounded completely unappealing in the books right from the start. There was nothing appealing about his personality and even his physical appearance didn't sound good. Also, Ana's character is supposed to be 21 but acts like a teenage girl. Even the writing style makes it seem like it's by a teenage girl. Not really surprising since it started out as fanfiction.

    • I am disgusted by this book so much, that I'm disgusted by their fans somewhat too! I mean, this book interprets, that women want a man like christian grey: Rich, successful, boss, good looking, suit guy, "alpha", abusive, dominating and such. And as such it interprets, that if guys want a girlfriend, then they should be like Christian Grey. Some women say they want a gentleman. Some women get degraded by those like Christian Grey. I don't know if they are the same women but it's contradicting. I mean ugh! This is just absurd.

  • cos girls like to be sluttish when they know thy've been repressed for years
    its just projecting a fantasy

  • There are so many reasons for it. I'm listing few
    1. It is written from female POV. Many sexual things in media are pictured from male POV. I hope you get my point. Women find something relatable about it. Men, on other hand do not find it appealing for same reason
    2. Christian Grey is typical alpha male. Most females love men who are assertive and take charge
    3. I have read first part more than halfway through. Agreed that it's badly written and has no literary value as such. But I don't agree with the fact that Christian is abusive. I think someone here has written a mytake on it an has made some valid points there.
    4. Hype by media. There are so many eroticas in the market that are better than fifty shades but they are not that famous...

  • Ugh, I hate that book. It's just hyped up, really. There are many well written books in that category, this is not one of them. The people I know like the book because 1. women like to fantasize and 2. they've never read good books in that category and think that 50 shades of grey is amazing. I mean, not the storyline, just those sex parts. It's such a cliché story to begin with, I mean... a rich guy who is actually good looking? And he chose an ordinary girl... Uhhh, just stop. I couldn't find anything in that book that I enjoyed. The word usage is shitty, the storyline is cringe-worthy. And didn't even watch the movie. But yeah, women like to fantasize about being with a billionaire. It doesn't mean they are gold diggers though.

    • But the interpretation is still there. We men get the idea, that women are gold diggers and want rich and ripped SUV driving CEO's. But yeah, good point.

    • And because they want men to be more rough with then, even though it's quite risky in real life, as can be seen in from women answers to this new question.

    • @Berethor That too! Make up your minds, women! If they're in a relationship, they should say, what they prefer: Gentle men or rough men.

  • I honestly don't know. I am not into that.

  • I don't know, I don't read sexual book. I guess he has a good charism and his assertive (which a lot of guys are not anymore)
