SJW - Social Justice Warrior. What does this phrase mean to you?

It was only recently that I discovered what SJW meant. I was on twitter and some people were using this phrase and I asked them what that meant and they told me it meant Social Justice Warrior. I know now at least when used by the people I follow on twitter, it means the very over the top, beat you on the head, feminist types that basically believe that everything that is male thinking is bad and everything that is female thinking is good. I see this phrase often brandied about on here so I thought it would be good to discuss what it actually means to people. From what I have seen and from how it has been used, I can see treating this phrase with derision. I find it ridiculous and over the top. To give an example, if you think there is a rape culture on college campus I find your thinking to be ridiculous. You are saying that men are being taught to rape or that it is OK to rape. I can only assume you do not realize this is what is meant or otherwise I must think you are a ridiculous thinker. I do not know how to see it differently. What are the alternatives? What am I missing?

So as of this update, no one has defended SJWs. So where exactly are the Social Justice Warriors and why aren't you here defending your name? Do you realize you are as ridiculous as we think you to be? Just wondering...

I must say, the responses I have received in this thread makes me have hope. There were many people in their 20s/30s that realize the ridiculousness of not being able to state the truth in life and do speak truth. It gave me hope in the next generation that I didn't realize was possible. So despite everything that generation was told, they choose to believe in truth, to believe in what common sense tells them despite the fact that they are taught to believe the opposite. This gives me hope. :)

  • social justice is historically meant for people to execute their societal roles and them getting what they need to get back from society. it is the relation between the individual and society.

    nowadays social justice warriors take authoritarian approaches wherever they can get away with it without actually giving a fuck about the consequences of their deeds, they use pseudo bureaucratic means to achieve their ends, as a result they affect society without democracy, thats how minorities are benefited at the cost of the majority all for tolerance.

    they think we need to follow their codes of bullshit morals but only we dont, we dont have a legal obligation to do so. if our immune system was tolerant we would be all fucking dead, so tolerance is just bullshit, because it will create a dead society.

    they are a typical case of a zealot ideology. they believe that they are always right because their intentions are right and everyone who says otherwise or criticizes them is wrong and pure evil.

    because they think they are always right they are often sexist and racist. they think they can discriminate anyone because muh social justice.

    they justify racism and sexism by saying that it is ok to discriminate against the majority as long as minorities are not touched in society. if you ask me that is not a good way for people to execute their societal roles.

    if you take a closer look at what they are as a group, what you actually see is what is known as a leaderless resistance movement. they make use of a hive mind collective that is organized through tumblr blogs and twitter hashtags.

    they are not actually interested in social justice, they are driven by self interest. they are a bunch of whiny, spoiled first world bitches that did not get from society what they were hoping for so they became crybabies.

    if you ask me, society is just a bunch of individuals living together and these individuals dont owe us anything. society doesn't owe us shit. this modern form of social justice pure horse shit.

    a thousand years ago social justice was great so people that were unrifghtfully stoned or some shit could get some form of help, but nowadays in the first world we dont need that shit.

These (millennial) sjw's are the inevitable outcome of thousands of easily influenced kids being taught by pseudo-intellectual liberals what is "right" and a cultural environment where they are given affirmation, and protection, for attacking those who don't toe the party line.
    These people are easily beaten in a debate if you've read as many books as I have, but it's better to just laugh at them.
    by the way, college is not a rape culture, a penis is not a "rape weapon," and Bruce Jenner isn't brave.

    As for rape culture, men aren't taught to rape, rapists know what they're doing is wrong, but they do it anyway. And yes rape at college happens, as it does everywhere else, in homes, work, especially prison...
    Maybe Im just biased because I've been raped myself, and know others who have been sexually abused/assaulted and raped as well. Saying rape culture is bullshit is honestly like a slap in the face to me. But as is the SJWs that parade around half naked on their slut walks chanting "I should not be raped because of how I dress", like jesus ladies, thats really not fucking why people get raped. 🙄 Another slap in the face to real rape victims rather than helping them.

    • See that's the whole problem with the phrase Social Justice Warrior. You'll easily be branded as a SJW from claiming there's such a thing as rape culture. It's become the default term for anyone that's "easily offended" when they've rightly been offended. The terms meaning is almost entirely based on what the users see as non-offensive.

    • @MrAtticusLebowski Exactly who is rightly offended or not? Is there such a thing as being offended? I personally think this is a made up concept... offense. To me, offense is a nothingburger. It really means I disagree with you. Which really means nothing except I disagree with you. I believe that every person has their right to say whatever they think. How can I believe in the right for someone to say their mind and in turn fault them for speaking their mind? How does that actually work? To discredit someone by claiming offense to something is very lazy and especially uninspiring... and regardless, very ineffective and not to mention hypocritical to actually believing every person has their say... So... maybe you do not think some people should have a thought? Or maybe you think it is OK as long as they have the right thought? Just wondering...

He looks mentally retarded" and then walk away. That parent and child is going to be offended. I'm going to be offended for them if i see that. I mean why are you talking crap to an 8 y/o like that. Them being offended is due to the fact said person is being an asshole. I mean maybe he has a proven ability to properly diagnose mentally slowness. People are still going to be offended with what he said. Them being offended doesn't discredit his super ability to visible diagnose people like this. The average person doesn't see insulting comments as logical as you describe.

What constitutes justice and progress, of course, are subjective, just like religious beliefs. In reality, social justice warriors are just liberals. And that's okay!
