What is with all this nonsense about "rule 34" in cartoons, video games, comics, books, TV shows, and anime?

Whats the sense of it? What does it all really mean? For those of you who don't know what Rule 34 is, it states "Rule 34: If it exists, there is porn of it. If not, now there is.". Why make porn out of something meant to be totally innocent or to enjoy as a guilty pleasure without having to corrupt it?

Because think about it- what is 'porn'? Porn can effectively be any subject matter which provides sexual arousal. But sexual arousal is primarily a subconscious phenomenon; if someone's sexually aroused at any given time, then whatever subject matter they're focused on at that moment in time instantly meets the criteria needed to qualify as 'porn' for that individual, regardless of how innocent or innocuous it may be. Nothing is meant to be totally innocent or asexual, because we as humans are neither totally innocent nor asexual, and it's all in the eyes of the beholder. Perception and interpretation are intrinsically corrupting- there's no way around that. And Rule 34 is just an example of how that works.

I think the slogan is directed towards sexuality, suggesting everything from mainstream to the fringe. As applies to hentai, fantasies can be indulged without the aspect of the paid performers of exploiting the young in real porn. You pretty much know what happens next.
