I'll make this an easy one.

no one can believe there is more than 2 genders without believing that gender identity as an abstract idea literally exists as fixed property of human beings in an abstract world that literally exists. And not without believing that that abstract world is superior to the physical world in terms of being "true" or "real", or simply put, believing it is "realer" than the physical world.

Transgenders believe this identity, their gender, the abstract idea of them in the form of a female or a male, is existing somewhere in a world like the world of forms, and that it is real. and because they believe it is realer than what they are seeing in the mirror, they try to change the physical world, their physical body, which they consider to be the physical manifestation of their supposed identity, based on that abstract identity, and make their physical body compatible with it, which is what they believe they are.

It needs a pure faith in substance dualism.

But if a progressive's brain could understand this he/she wouldn't be a progressive.

that said, I don't have anything against people who want to cross dress. but there is no reason I believe a person when he/she says the identity they like to transit to, their abstract idea of themselves in the form of a male or female, actually exists.

Two standard ones that we all grew up understanding. But now, we are starting to adopt a broader sense of the word. physically, there are many in-between forms from "textbook" female genitalia to male genitalia. If there can be sososo many different physical forms, why can't there be many psychological states of being? So... there are multiple genders, there's an infinite amount of genders.

Some people make up ridiculous genders that aren't even about masculinity or femininity. I don't mind people identifying as somewhere in between or as none really though. It's not my life. I do mind the people who shove it down your throat every chance they get though. Overall, I don't understand why there is so much hate for transgender people.
