Why do guys want to have sex with the light on?

I was getting ready to sleep with my friend and he gets out of bed and turns the light on. I didn't want to be that girl so I didn't say anything about it. Then when afterwards I went to use the restroom and he starts turning all the lights on in the house. I know it sounds dumb but I've never been naked in front of someone with all the lights on before and it was awkward for me.

You hear guys talk about it. So what is the big deal for you for lights vs no lights?

I know that I'm a very visual guy and I prefer to see what I'm playing with. I'm assuming that other guys feel the same way here, but at the same time, I think that women almost uniformly always want the lights off or even low. To me, sex has a lot to do with imagination and visual stimuli. While I think that both partners should be comfortable, I think that shutting that off sort of works against the relationship.

Bc you say you're not comfortable him seeing you naked. It looks to me you first get comfortable with each others bodys before getting this intimate. Like take a shower together and explore each other. Ie wash each other. Or even shave him. Face and lower regions. Let him wash your hair. Whatever. You'll see you'll have a lot of more fun building the tension like that. It takes a level of maturity though. If you're only want to have sex by sneeking under the sheets with the lights out so you won't have to see anything you're not ready in my opinion.
