Guys, would you get a vasectomy if it was easily reversible? Girls, would you date and/or marry a guy who had a reversectomy?

According to this article, there is a new way to perform vasectomies that is safe and easily reversed.

Quoting from the article:
“In a regular vasectomy, an incision is made on each side of the scrotum and surgeons then severe the vas deferens, referring to the long tube which winds around from the testicle to the penis, carrying sperm to where it enters the semen,” Professor Catherine VandeVoort, one of the co-authors on the paper, told Digital Trends. “There are various approaches to a vasectomy, but they involve destroying the integrity of the vas: either removing a piece, crushing it with a clamp mechanism, or cutting and cauterizing it.”

In the new alternative method, instead of crushing or cauterizing the vas, the Vasalgel is injected under anesthetic, which then acts as a barrier, preventing the sperm from going any further.

“The advantage to this is that the integrity of the vas can be maintained, which means that at a later date you could potentially go back and flush this gel out without problem,” VandeVoort continued.
Yes, I would totally get one! Pregnancy delayed until I am ready! No tricks!! Men's rights yah! OR Yes, I would totally date a guy who had one of these. The decision is ours to be made together!

No, I wouldn't get a reversectomy! Bring on the kids whenever OR No, I wouldn't date or marry a guy who had one of these. I am pro-(woman's) choice!

  • Supporting women's rights has little to do with this. A vasectomy, reversible or otherwise, is about men's bodies and therefore is their choice. It's not like I can or would force a guy to have kids with me if he didn't want to. That's not what women's rights are about.

I would happily date a guy who had a vasectomy, as long as he eventually wanted to have kids (by reversing it or frozen sperm, whatever).

    • Your view is commendable, but sometimes women trick men into pregnancy.

    • I know it happens once in a while, and obviously is a horrific thing to do. But theoretically a guy could do something similar if he really wanted to (he could lie about a vasectomy, damage the condom, or replace her birth control with a placebo). Maybe that doesn't happen often, but it's not impossible. Ultimately trust has to go both ways. But I certainly do not begrudge men the right to make this choice. It is something they absolutely should have the right to choose.

  • I think you can somehow do a reversectomy without the new method tho, I remember this Scrubs episode where Cox had a vasectomy his wife got mad so he "fixed" it and then got another vasectomy lol
I don't know tho it's a tv show they could've made it up
I voted yes by the way

    • If you read the article, they say it has been technically possible, yes, but cutting or crushing the vas often means it is destroyed for good -- especially if a lot of time has passed. So you're right, but also not completely right. Not trying to be disagreeable. Worthy comment! :)

    • I didn't read the whole article so I missed that part. I wasn't sure about it cause ya know, it's Scrubs, it's not 100% accurate. In that case he got it done a couple days after the vasectomy, so I guess that could've made it possible.

    • A vasectomy is reversible but its not meant to be. It costs 10.000 dollars to reverse. Also the more years you wait the less reversible it is.

  • I had the old school cut and cauterize. All done!

  • Vasectomy's are already reversible to an extent. I've seen two numbers thrown around: Either 95% reversible in first 10 years, or 90% in first three then goes down drastically.
I don't know which one of these numbers are true, but I might make the decision in the future to have one and freeze some sperm. Especially if it becomes more easily reversible.

  • Doesn't matter what the woman thinks, it is my body and I can do what ever procedure I want to

  • maybe

  • No I would not
