i haven't read as of yet any other posters have put if any.
the biggest tell tell sign is its more of an open relationship and both parties are free to date others but no real emotional ties other than the sex . oh,both may fell some level of attraction (mostly sexual however ) but very low emotional (I really love you type thing)
if he's flirting ,dating, or talks about other girls and how he'd like to get with them its fwb's
if he gets jealous if you look or say some other guy may be cuite or good looking then it may be more than fwb's. you know this guy betterthan we do and not enough info to really make a definitive answer for you.
If he takes you places outside of sex epecially to hang out with his friends or family that is a good sign its not.
If more than half you time is spent having sex and the other half is getting a hamburger before or after sex then probably friends w benefits (exception to this is the first few weeks after you become sexually involved might be a little like this but if it is months later then be a little worried).
If the only thing ya are doing and talkin about is sex,no talking or meeting up on a daily bases or in the day time.

Imagine your best guy freind, and now imagine you two have sex on a regular basis, that's a friends with benefits situation. if you are friends that have sex that friends with benefits if you were girlfriend/boyfriend you would have made an agreement to be exclusive. there are no "tell-tale signs" its that simple
A friend with benefits would (should) be a friend too and thus
-respect you too,
-treat you good too,
-really care about you too, and
-will stay with you too, even if he's not getting sex.
but not talk/think about building a future with you
