Gays disgust me, am I homophobic?

Hello, when I was little I saw on the street two men kissing, it offends me and since I am completely disgusted by gays. When I see gay couples, I avoid them as much as possible, or when someone tells me he is gay I avoid him. I'm not against gays, but when I saw a gay couple it bothers me because it makes me sick. Am I homophobic?

  • "I'm not against gays, but..."

They're disgusting, they offend you, they make you sick, you avoid them...but you're not against gays. And you're asking whether you're homophobic.

Let's try this: ask yourself, HONESTLY, whether your disgust, your offense, your nausea, your avoidance, whether all that is a reasonable, measured response to gay people. If so, why? If not, why not?

Then ask yourself whether disgust, offense, nausea and avoidance is a reasonable, measured response to straight people. If so, why? If not, why not?

Finally, ask yourself whether a reasonable, measured response to straights should be the same as a reasonable, measured response to gays. If so, why? If not, why not?

    Hope this helps.

  • no you are not homophobic. Frankly I think that term is overused and misused. Just because most of us are disgusted by their unnatural life style doesn't mean we are afraid, just homodisgusted

    • If think your right, I'm not homophobic but homodisgusted. Thanks!

    • I love when people choose the wrong answer.

  • Yes, your attitude is exactly that of a bigoted homophobe.

People are different from one another in various genetic respects: different skin color, left-handed or right-handed, blue eyed or brown eyed, hetero or homosexual. They're all variations on being human. Accept others just as you yourself expect to be accepted for what you are.

I myself don't like seeing kissing or other sexual behavior in public regardless of the sex of the people doing it. I find it offensive. But it's not harmful, so they have a right to offend me.

  • I am too and I am attending a fashion school wanting to be a fashion designer! I have to keep quiet because gay guys rule and dominate the fashion industry. I do have some gay guy friends but I don't support gay marriage and I refuse to go to a gay club/bar; even though my straight friends say that they had the best time there. Men and Women are suppose to be together not Man and Man or Woman and Women. Personally I find lesbians to be worse though.

    • I totally agree with you.

  • um yes? just dont be rude to gays and stop avoiding them since theyre sexuality doesn't really represent them and theyre normal humans too so just accept that they're a normal aspect of society and get on with your life

  • You're homophobic. You even avoid gay people because they offend/disgust you so much.

  • If you support discrimination in law THEN I'd say you are.

I don't like tomatoes, but that doesn't mean I 'hate' them.

  • I would say you fit the definition... but if you leave them alone and don't openly hate that is cool I suppose.

  • Yes.

  • I wouldn't call you homophobic. But you say you avoid them which is rude. therefore you are homophobic. I have 2 gays in my class. I feel weird seeing them flirting but its their life and I have no right to tell them its wrong. We also have. Much fun as a group.

  • You fill every criterion for being a homophobe. The interesting thing is that there is evidence to show homophobes are in denial over their own sexuality.

  • You're not, you're normal. Gay men disgust me too but I don't hate them, they just disgust me when they do sexual stuff.

  • Yes, you're a homophobic prick. Does that help?

  • I don't think that makes you homophobic -- it just means you don't like homosexuality, which is not the same thing.

Homophobia, etymologically, would mean an irrational fear of gays. But it really means more like being scared something will make you gay (or qualify you as gay), when it won't, or doesn't.

  • You're the definition of "homophobic".

  • Yes you are.

  • Don't worry, you're not homophobic. You have a right to be disgusted by gross things.

  • Yes, and ignorant. It's not your fault though

    • Why ignorant?

    • Why is he ignorant?

    • @Asker you said you had no problem with gays, yet you're disgusted by them. You are the very definition of ignorant, also stupid.

  • Yeah I'd say you fit the definition of homophobic

  • thats normal ... I'm always offended by homosexuals ! and I will never accept their presence

    • change your name to brainless beauty. Well actually, you're probably a hideous redneck with half your teeth missing and a fat gut.

    • I totally agree with you. Homosexuals are gross as hell.

  • Your a little more than homophobic...

  • Yes, you're a textbook case.

  • I would not call you homophobic u are just a straight guy.

  • You're homophobic and close minded and obviously you take things too personal if it "offends" you that a guy might be kissing another guy, you're disgusted by seeing them kissing but they probably didn't even acknowledge your existence

  • *10 months later* yep your a homophobe
