I think 'accepted' is perhaps a simplistic way of putting it but I know what you mean. I think there are many factors.
Guys watch lesbian p*rn more than girls watch gay p*rn. This has normalized lesbianism in the eyes of men.
Because guys are more fascinated with lesbians than girls are with gay guys, lesbianism also gets more exposure on mainstream media, which also helps to normalize lesbianism.
Also there is prejudice against gay men. For example, while we acknowledge the existence of 'femme lesbians' or so-called 'lipstick lesbians', people often have a prejudiced view that all gay men are at least a little effeminate.
Also I've noticed that homophobia is stronger in women. I think women fear the 'threat' of gay men more than men fear the 'threat' of lesbians. For example, many guys are at least a little turned on by lesbianism. Many women are not turned on by male homosexuality. Another factor in this is the perception that it's men more than women who tend to stay in the closet and suddenly burst out. When a married famous person comes out of the closet, it's almost always a man, especially in politics. Maybe this scares a lot of women. Also, guys seem to be curious about transsexuals more than girls are. Maybe this also scares women.
There are some closely related words. Home, Human, Homo sapiens, Home-sick, Homely, and many more. Humans are Homo sapiens living in Home. But Man stays out for much longer time because of various reasons compared to woman. Women are much more Home Lovers and feel Home sick if they need to stay out for longer time. Two woman living in the same house (or in a hostel room) will be much more close to each other than man because of this Home Loving nature. Sex is ultimate result of Love and closeness. If they have helped each other during their difficult time - like periods or other, they will feel much safe and confident about each other. On other hand man will not feel any such thing ever. This is why there are much more higher chances of Lesbian relations between two woman than Gay relations between two man. Lesbian relations between women can be kept unknown to everybody easily because of our social systems, but if two man have sexual relations - it will became known to others easily. Women can understood better How and where to do what for pleasure for each other compared to men - because it is a mater of feelings and love for each other.

Less people find it sexy when two men are together. But that number is climbing too, I believe.
I don't know why that is, I guess because women are generally more affectionate anyway, but I really don't know.
I am personally against Lesbian or gay relationship. Nature has designed man and woman for a purpose. Respect it and do what nature has designed for you. Nothing is acceptable for me - except real relation between man and woman - Boy and Girl.
I do not know why. People are people. Why are some accepted and others aren't? What's with all the social stigma being based on someone else's personal beliefs? Kind of sill if you ask me...

People become uncomfortable with those who defy the standard gender roles. There are more women who openly identify as lesbians who look and act much like straight women than there are men who are openly gay but who look and act like straight men.

i don't know about that. people are sort of okay with lipstick lesbians because they dismiss it as a phase-butch lesbians get called unfeminine dykes and get dirty looks. gender-bending is always somehow more hated-if a gay guy is feminine,he'll probably get picked on more,same for butch lesbians.

For guys:
-Guys all want to be 'aplhas,' in a way, and being gay is assumed to be a 'b!tch.' Add this to the fact that gay sex can feel good if a guy tries it, and I would suspect that every guy who has a problem with gay guys is simply overcompensating: he doesn't want anyone to think he is gay, so he goes on a rampage against them. Some may say he's trying to convince himself as well, but that is irrelevant.
Gay women don't bother guys for two common reasons (even if one of them is imaginary). The first is that gay women tend to be unattractive, and guys don't pay attention to what unattractive women do with their lives anyway. The second is when gay women are attractive, they imagine them kissing each other and getting in the middle of things. They want to be extra nice to them just in case there is some chance of that occurring, even though there isn't.
For girls there are two possible explanations:
-There are many 'traditional' women out there, and traditional people do traditional things. Among those traditions is one where women do whatever men tell them to: men tell them to hate gay guys, so they follow.
-another tradition for women is a tacit understanding that if they just be cute, modest, and attentive they don't have to do anything else in life, some guy will come along and feed them, cloth them, give them babies, and basically pay for everything they need and want for the rest of their life. And the reason this is assured is because guys are helpless when it comes to resisting a woman's curves and crevices - except for gay men. Gay men ruin this agreement. Their existence says "you aren't as beautiful as you think." If not the first, I suspect this is the biggest reason for women to hating gay men.
Gay women don't bother straight women because it's simply less competition. Who would be bothered by that?
I have friends on both sides too, and have this discussion with them. First, the idea gay men sex is more invasive and repulsive for straight men more than lesbian sex is for straight women. Women find each other sexy, and its really just oral and other stuff. But more than that, gay men try to throw their gayness in peoples faces to see how they react, and often they do it by hitting on straight men! If gay men stopped hitting on straight men, the whole thing would change.
Girl will still act like a girl even if she have sex with a his own gender, but can a man be man? Act like a man? Not really nor even a gay would have honor and act like a real man

Look in my city I have seen gay guys, they can't act like a man they pretty much show that they're gay but you wouldn't understand a girl if she is lesbian or not by her just walking or talking, you're wrong here please accept it and let the chess champion be right! :)
I have some gay friends & if they didn't tell you they were gay you would never now it. They are as masculine as a straight man. The other side is the lesbian that is so butch you can't stand to be around her.
I've always wondered this.. Why is it somehow more taboo for two men to be together than two women? Maybe it's a cultural thing? I don't know.

because women are the nurturers. at infancy everyone, boys and girls feed from their mothers breasts so because of that, I feel that male-female and female-female relationships are considered obviously fully acceptable in the first case, but more acceptable in the latter case than a male-male relationship, in which no intimate physical nourishment occurs in such a combination.

What about lesbians?
We live in a very gynocentric society in the US today. Women are coddled and placed on a pedestal. They can pretty much do no wrong, and are typically viewed as victims rather than vilified as men are. It's not rocket science.

Actually it depends on culture too. For example so Latin cultures find it more offensive for someone to be a lesbian than a gay.
