Why I've Decided To Leave My Pubes Alone

Why I've Decided To Leave My Pubes Alone

It's tough being a woman in your 20s, especially when in comes to the infamous battle with pubic hair. Oh, how I envy those women with little hair, who are unaware of this ghastly "shaving rash" and "ingrown hairs." I, for one, am not so fortunate. No, i was born hairy. My pubic hair is visible outside most bikini bottoms, grows down the sides and even, sparsely, down my crack. (News flash, most women have hairy butts. If your women shaves it, consider yourself lucky.)

My whole life has been a struggle. Shaving gives me ingrown hairs and razor burn that lasts weeks. I am so not doing that, sorry. Hair removal cream? Ditto. Waxing gives me ingrowns as well, and hurts like no one's buisess. Lazer hair removal? I'm in University- do you think i have that much money (or confidence?) Basically, i am a hairy girl who struggles, very much, to remove my pubes. And this has ALWAYS been really embarrassing, and a huge concern of mine. Because now it's attractive to go bare down there. That's what most guys apparently want. Well sorry, boys, i am putting down my foot (and razor) and i am saying NO!

We have hair down there for a reason. God knows i have no idea what the reason actually is, but who am i to question the creation of the human body? Everyone has it, deal with it. It's natural, it's normal, it's staying.

Is it really that unnatractive? Honestly. Compared to ingrown hairs, pimples, bumps, rashes and stubble, and some hair? I'd pick the hair any day. Not all of us ladies (and gents) are lucky enough to go smooth and bare no worries, a lot of us actually end up looking a lot worse than we did to start.

It's a pain in the ass (pun indended). It hurts. It takes a long time. It itches. It costs money. It grows back instantly. I have spent countless hours on the interent googling ways to get rid of shaving rash, how to remove hair for sensitive skin- you name it, it's in my history. Surely i have better things to do with my time than obsess over what a man is going to think when he see's my hairy vagina?!

Do i really want a man who cares? Call me a hopeless romantic, but i want a guy who doesn't care if i'm hairy! And surely, when my soulmate saunters into my life, he really won't care less? And at the end of the day, if he DOES care, then he clearly isn't that great of a guy, and i dont want him in my life (or anywhere near my lady bits.)

I am a WOMAN! I will not be dictated by society, or what men find attractive. I will do with my pubes whatever i want. And i am leaving them be. Sure, i'll get out the scissors and trim down a bit, but the rest is staying. I'm sorry if you can see them when i'm in a bikini. I'm sorry if when we're in bed, your turned off by my hairy crack and inside my thighs. If you can remove the hair, adn WANT to, then LUCKY YOU! Go for it!

But i am done, and i encourage women like me to embrace the hair too!

I am hairy, and I am proud.

  • I'm a girl and I think pubic hair removal is more hygienic and doesn't make the girl look like she's lazy about keeping herself up.

I have the most sensitive skin as well, but you have to realize that once you start something like shaving, your body slowly gets used to it and the razer burn becomes less severe overtime.

As for waxing, when I first started it would be a 10/10 for pain and is be bleeding but I kept at it and went to a good salon and overtime my body slowly got used to it.

Beauty is pain! As for ingrown hairs, you're supposed to exfoliate the public area a couple days after you shave/wax and keep it up so the hair doesn't find a way to grow back into your skin.

I understand it's a thing that society has made up to be and yes we naturally do grow hair there, but like you said.. You don't know the reason why it's there to begin with so why not remove it?

You're in your 20s too you said, you're in your prime and you should be keeping care of yourself top notch. I'm a broke student too but I always make sure I take care of myself.

    • MHO HANDS DOWN!!!

    • Actually, it might not be all that hygienic. A theory suggests that pubic hair in women prevents dust and whatnot from entering the vulva, kind of like the cilia in the nose. I think the main purpose, though, is that it traps pheromones which people subconsciously detect. Mating purposes mainly.

    • There are plenty of women that remove pubic hair and they don't tell you about getting dusty vaginas.. I'm sorry but this take just seemed like a lot of fluff and and blaming society about being lazy about not wanting to go through some pain or try finding way to make the razer burn to stop, it's as simple as coconut oil and exfoliating the area. This is just my opinion, and I don't hear about men not being in the mood to "mate" because she has no pubic hair.

  • This is going to come off as mean, but I promise I'm trying to be constructive. First of all, the opposite gender decides what is sexy for you. For instance females decide if I'm attractive and males decide if your attractive. Nobody should ever HAVE to change themselves to someone else's fancy, but you will be limiting your options greatly by letting your hair grow out.

    • No. They don't. Anyone who thinks this is a fool.

    • What you define as sexy will not attract the opposite gender. It doesn't matter if you think your "insert characteristic here" should be sexy, because it will not attract the other gender and you cannot realistically expect to define sexy for them

  • Im sorry but you're 13... what experienced and why do you even shave or trim in the first place? Geez this generation want to grow waaay to fast. Yoire supposed to be hairy... you're a child, therfore not showing your skin to anyone nir should be worried about shaving or trimming your pubes. Besides, Dont expect everyone to be ok with it. If thats what you want go ahead but dont get pissy when you're old enough (17+) to have intercourse... the guy won't accept it or get grossed out about it.

    • Im not 13, my age is clearly not correct... there's no way to change it on gag

  • as a guy with hypersensitive skin (i can litterally not shave my face without it looking like someone loaded a shotgun with salt, then fired it in my face) I have found ways to ease the aching. Also i have decided to have a short beard.

Anyway, here's some few tips to make it a little bit easier.
You need a sharp razor, shaving gell for sensitive skin, and an aloe vera cream.
    1. A hot shower and a scrub. This will open the pores, soften the hair, and make shaving a lot easier (also it feels amazing). The scrub will clean the skin and dead skin cells, ensuring that there will be a lot less bacteria on your skin (if razor burns happen, they won't be as bad)
    2. If it's a while ago since you shaved, use a trimmer to cut the hairs down to less than 5mm. That way you won't have to go over the shaving too many times. Also, using a trimmer is a good choice for areas you want short and nice, yet not shaved.
    3. Use PLENTY of shaving foam/gell and take your time to massage it in. Then shave with the grain once. Wash it off with warm water, then apply foam again. Shave it off against the grain. Again, rinse with warm water.
    4. Repeat step 3 on each body part you want to shave
    5. End it all with COLD water, for at least 15 seconds. This closes the pores, and prevents dirt from entering them (thus prevents razor burns and bumps)
    6. Take an aloe vera cream (some shaving gells work too, if they contain the right ingredienses, but aloe vera is better) and apply it to all the areas you've shaved. Aloe vera is well known for reducing skin irritation, which prevents bumps. If your skin feels a bit dry after 5 minutes or so, put on some more aloe vera.
    That should be it.

This method isn't meant for full body shaving every day, mainly due to it being fairly time-consuming. It's simply a way to shave while trying to keep razor burns, bumps, and so on at a minimum.
Just my method that works like a charm :)

  • I don't have this problem with shaving lol

  • Lol. I trim. I don't like THAT much hair around me my areas. But good for you. :)

  • I love this take! You're very inspirational. I don't really have the pube problem, but this take can speak for every trouble girls and guys have to go through to look 'pretty'.

    • Thanks :)

  • I applaud your take was insightful as well as entertaining.

I'm not going to lie shaving is a hassle it can take hours, but unfortunately I was born in this (well towards this) melinium. It's popular and seems like the only way (I obviously know it's not). Not to mention it's kind of my obsession/guilty pleasure. Hair just bugs me and you're correct shaving can also be uncomfortable too but having too much hair can cause problems as well.

So yeah... I stand by my statement "Hairy is Scary!"

    • Hahaha i agree!

  • I actually HATE shaving all of it off it becomes so painful and then I want to hide it more than if I had a little hair :( It's all red and irritated and then feel like I never want sex again! The first day after you shave it all it's all smooth and great but the SECOND DAY it burns and it's itchy and bumpy and you can't shave it again because it's barely anything it's a nightmare!! So I started having a little triangle and keeping most of it shaved but the middle front part which gets irritated most easily but then once time I accidentally shaved down the middle of the triangle and I rounded out the top a bit and viola I had a heart shape! So that's what I have all the time now I still don't have much hair but I also don't get irritated down there and my boyfriend thinks it's cute. And if I grew it all out it would be patchy and weirdly thin and uhgg so I can't do that either!!

  • ...
*stands up and claps* This chick needs an award. FINALLY SOMEONE HAS SAID IT.
I may have amazing hair on my head that I would NEVER get rid of, no matter how hard it is to style... but the price is paid between my legs -_-

    Yes, no more shaving!

  • I shave, but more for my own confidence then anything else.

  • I just trim it, so there's always hair there. I agree that it is not what it's cracked up to be. I don't like the feel of hairless or the razor bumps. Women are mammals, so we have fuzz on every part of our body.

    • Omggggg yesss

  • I shave, but just because I'm pretty hairy too being Greek, and if I don't I have a vagina afro lol
I used to get ingrowns and razor burns when I first began shaving, but now my skin is used to it.
I got a Brazilian wax once. NEVER EVER EVER again.

    • So afro hair textures are now equated to pubic hair?

    • Not really hahaha Think about it. If you let your pubic hair grow long, it gets all bushy and curly and it stands up if you get me. Like an afro does. Don't be so sensitive.

  • I absolutely agree with your stance on this. I don't think women should have to shave.

I personally trim for comfort. If I have a full bush down there, it sends me nuts. It's so tickle-y and itchy. I shave to keep myself comfortable but I don't shave daily otherwise I would have stubble rash. So I shave once a week. A week's worth of growth is my limit when it comes to down there.

But, more power to you :) Don't shave if you don't want to.

  • Very nice. Personally, all I shave is my legs and armpits and that's just for my own comfort (my hair grows quickly and it becomes very uncomfortable after a while). Everything else is completely (or almost completely) left alone. I don't see why women make such a fuss about hair. It's natural! Why mess with it?

    • I had a girl tell me when her pubic hair is too long, It would be pushed in her vagina when her partner had sex with her.. painful. sooo.. that might be a reason not to completely leave it alone lol.

    • @TimesNewRoman not only am I not concerned even the least bit about sex, did you not see where I said ALMOST completely? I trim down there. Again, for my own comfort. I don't shave there. It's more uncomfortable to shave than to leave it alone.

    • you say "Everything else is completely (or almost completely) left alone" That was kind of vague. What do you completely leave alone? what do you almost completely leave alone (dont answer those just making a point that it was vague) PLUS i have dyslexia. So to answer your question.. yes I probably didn't read that you said that. WHY am I always getting into these kind of conversations before I look at the age of the person Im talking to. you are 13, you havnt hardly experience ANYTHING yet lol

  • Yeah the razor burns and ingrown hair is extremely annoying. I don't fully shave it all off. Just trim it and shave where majority of it is gone. so that if i'm wearing undies it won't show.

  • I prefer fluff on my muff.
Hair gives the puss personality, with different color shades and variety of trims.
I agree that shaving can be irritating to the precious vag, so no razors near the
    delicate area.
Trimming is ok, if you have a really thick tangle.
You can use a moustache trimmer to take down the really heavy stuff.

  • I don't really like shaving either. I was born hairy too, and It's a hassle with razors, shaving cream, etc.

  • Very Interesting I did not know so many woman did not shave these days. Not dogging it or anything but all the woman I have been with all my life shaved so I never actually experienced a woman who didn't so I don't have any experience to speak on like or dislike one way or the other

  • Hey, if that's what you want, go for it, but don't expect every man to accept it, most of us don't like it, and just like it's your decision to not shave, it's ours to like it or not.
I'm not criticizing you, I'm just saying it because many women come out saying that men should like hairy women, and no, that's not the case, we like it if we want to.
I personally shave my whole body besides my arms and head, because I don't like body hair, and where I come from, women love men without hair on their bodies, but I also do it for myself. I don't like hair on me, I'm not gonna like it on women either.

    • But hey, good Take though, I'm sure many women who are tired of shaving will appreciate it ;)

    • Totally undertand where you're coming from :)
