Do guys think of girls differently if they use pads or tampons?

My boyfriend said he always wondered if I used pads or tampons. Do they think of us differently if they know? Like I'm worried that if I use pads it would smell.

  • First and foremost, it's whatever she feels comfortable with. That's the most important part.

That being said, I've always had a preference for tampons (to the extent that a guy can have a preference for a feminine hygiene product). They just seem cleaner and more efficient. Plus, it's a lot easier to go down on a girl when she's using a tampon without literally looking like a clown afterward.

I had always thought of pads as more of an old-fashioned product because all of the girls I'd been with intimately enough to know about their preferences seemed to use tampons. My current gf, however, uses pads exclusively. Tampons are uncomfortable for her and, mentally, creep her out a bit. Whenever we have sex during her period, it's always a little weird taking off her panties to see this thing with a big blood stain on it, but I get over it pretty quickly. I'm also less likely to go down on her unless I can tell that it's a light flow, since otherwise the entire area has some blood remnants on it and that tastes kind of gross.

Overall, though, I really don't care all that much. I don't think anything smells all that different with pads versus tampons, as long as the rest of your hygiene is normal.

    • Thank you for your answer. I didn't think that you could do stuff with her while she's on a period. Did they also use tampons while having sex?

    • It depends on how each person feels about it, but it's definitely possible to have sex while she's on her period, you just have to account for a little mess (for instance by putting down a towel, or doing it in the shower). Definitely can't have intercourse with a tampon in, but you can certainly still stimulate the clitoris. You just have to make sure there's some source of lubrication.

    • Oh I see. Thank you for the answer.

  • It's one of those "huh" and "what are you talking about" things. I have never given any thought to either. How she manages herself is 100% up to her and none of my business.

    • lol okay. Thanks for the answer.

  • I never used tampons and never knew they were things like that until I saw it in some movie, I was only introduced to pads, and I don't think I will ever use tampons its just un-comfy to me looking at how to use it on internet. I prefer pads! And much more hygiene!

It does smell regardless of tampon or pad, it all depends on your changing cycle. If its heavy in the day change it twice and again at night depending.

And my place has different lengths for Kotex 28cm , 32cm and 38cm i use 38 for my first two days and 32 the rest of the days and last day 28. So that it won't leak out of the pad whether i sleep on back or sit.

    • oh and wash every time you go to toilet! That way you can keep smell away! :)

    • Thank you for your advice :). I feel uncomfortable if it feels wet so I usually change at least three times a day when it's heavy. I feel a bit relieved, most people say it's not meant to smell. I was thinking, not even a little bit when you go to the bathroom to change it? Wow, the long length pads seem useful. I didn't know there were long ones. I bought the extra/night pads but all the different brands were about the same length, 28cm or less...

    • the only brand that I know has 38 cm is KOTEX! Its soft like cotton! I have been using it since my second period! The first time i used a pad has a rough texture and i had skin blister due to it! But this brand is the only one i trust the most! When you go to bathroom to change it yes there will be the smell! It will smell definitely and depends on your body as well. For me it does, since the beginning! Its normal. To not get an kind of weird disease just continue with the way you change your pads and you should be good to go and remember to wash every time you go to toilet, cause it sticks to your body a bit as well and this is unhygienic. And guys don't really care what you use! Unless he is some picky person! Its your body your comfiness so do which makes you feel better!

  • I sure hope not because tampons share the shit out of me. I know it's not logical and they're safe, but I'm a big wuss. Out of all the pads I've tried, Always Infinity has never let me down - the first pad with which I'm not concerned about leakage, day or night. And they're ridiculously lightweight too.

    • I was scared the first time too. It feels uncomfortable going in and out and the string never broke for me. I'll try look around for infinity then. Thanks for the suggestion.

  • i never suspected a guy to put any thought into pads or tampons haha personally i think pads are gross and if you dont keep up with them (change them frequently) you'll get the bad smell. tampons are the way to go in my eyes

    • Haha I didn't think I'd be asked that. I see, Thanks for your answer.

    • well its definitely interesting to find out what guys wonder about girls haha and you're welcome

  • If you change pads regularly and bathe more than usual while on your period (like twice a day, one in the morning and once at night), you shouldn't smell.

  • I don't think guys care because they simply don't wanna see them anyways

    • oh okay. Thanks

  • I always heard that his like tampons better... because using pads do tend to smell bad

    • I see. Thank you for your answer.

  • +1 to what OldDinosaur said.

    • okay. Thanks

  • I don't care one way or the other

    • Thanks

  • I legitimately couldn't care less how girls look after themselves.

    • I see. Thanks for the answer.

  • I've never heard of a man being interested in what sanitary products a woman uses.

    • ohh okay. Maybe because he has a sister and he said she made him bring it to school for her friend...

  • Totally don't care or need to know what she uses...

    • Okay, thanks for the answer.

  • I don’t really care either way. But if a girl is wearing a pad I would expect she is wearing fuller cut bigger panties to accommodate pads. As far a tampons goes my first thought she is trying to be more modern to have the extra mobility and not having to worry about them bulk of the pad or it moving.

  • Pads are messy, obvious and smell.

  • guys dont know and dont want to know about those things

    • Okay :)

  • Maybe some guys don't care, but my boyfriend has expressed a strong 'preference' for tampons. From what I've heard, if a guy does have a preference, it's usually for tampons. (And no, having a preference doesn't mean my bf is weird.)

    • Oh I see. I wonder why, it doesn't affect guys much right?

    • Yes and no. I mean indirectly it sort of does. With pads you can't really wear thongs, so you have to wear grandma panties... which then effects what kind of clothes you can wear. So it changes your wardrobe. In addition pads are bigger to carry around and take up more room in the garbage so they are more noticeable. Plus if you like to walk around in undies there is a big noticeable difference. And you can't swim with pads, so if you plan on going to the beach then you can't go if you refuse to use tampons. They are also more likely to leak on his bed/couch if you lean the wrong way. Plus they can smell worse if you had it on a while. I don't know I just feel like pads are for pre-teen girls starting their periods... where tampons are more for grown women.

    • Ah you have a lot of points there. I didn't really think about pads being there for younger people. The thing I don't like about tampons would be changing them in public restrooms. Would you use wipes to wipe your hands, then wash your hands after or just use toilet paper then wash at the sink when leaving the cubicle?

  • If your pads stink you're just gross lol it should never smell

    • Okay. I was just worried, like if we aren't able to tell if we smell?

  • your bf is weird

    • lol I don't understand him much either.

  • I can't wear tampons cause I can die. I've had to go to the hospital once cause of them. If you change the pads regularly like you're supposed to then it won't smell. Just carry like two in your purse.

    • Oh I hope you are alright now >< Did you have TSS? That scares me. I carry a lot in my purse XP

    • I still have it. I don't wanna risk anything too so I don't wear them. it is scary but you just can't leave them in ya know? Lol

  • No one can smell it. Change them often. I hate tampons so I use pads but its a personal choice

    • Oh okay. Thank you for your answer. I hate the feeling of blood coming out and not being able to lie on my back with pads though ><

    • Why can't you lay on your back?

    • Not for long. Difinately not when I'm sleeping unless it's the first night or last night when I almost don't have a period. It's bacause the blood moves to my back area then through my underwear then clothes.
