  • I've been having an anti-circumcision debate today for 10 hours... I can't believe this question came up again... -_-

Anyways, circumcision is technically CHILD ABUSE. You are altering the male infant's body for their ENTIRE LIFETIME and WITHOUT THEIR CONSENT. Most of the supposed "benefits" are either made up to support the obsessive religious practices or the traditional ones that sticked around in the USA from the Victorean era to "prevent masturbation", because circumcision was even said to be a cure for "hysteria and epilepsy".

Circumcision should only be applied if someone has a medical condition, such as phimosis. Otherwise, people should be taught how to preserve their hygiene (retracting foreskin while taking a shower, showering once a day) instead of making up scare stories about smegma and bacteria and 100% risk of penile cancer and the "HIV transmission rate being lower" (which matters in Africa where almost everyone is infected, not in the western world if you engage only in reasonable sexual activity.)

Also, the people saying "he will thank you for it later"?
Right. Here is some actual survey data: https://www.intactamerica.org/circumcisionharm

SEXUAL SYMPTOMS: 76% reported dry, keratinized glans requiring supplemental lubrication; 24% suffer from erectile dysfunction; and 16% reported painful erections.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EFFECTS: Many respondents reported DEEP SORROW, a SENSE OF LOSS and inferiority, feelings of abandonment, INADEQUACY, anger at being mutilated, and mistrust of doctors. 78% feel “LESS WHOLE,” 68% feel “INFERIOR” to men who are intact, and 68% feel “NOT NORMAL” or “UNNATURAL.” 13% of respondents report having SUICIDAL THOUGHTS; 5% have ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.

And more importantly, it is a health risk for the child's survival:
"The study, by researcher Dan Bollinger, concluded that approximately 117 neonatal deaths due directly or indirectly to circumcision occur annually in the United States, or one out of every 77 male neonatal deaths."

    • @Mesonfielde, you are awesome. I'm grateful there are men like you in the world. This post was excellence. Thank you

    • Bloody hell. If you can source all that, then i'd be realyl gratefull!

    • @dartmaul15 the fact that circumcision was designed to halt masturbation is at https://www.cirp.org/pages/whycirc.html but also en.wikipedia.org/.../John_Harvey_Kellogg which relies on the book https://books.google.se/books?id=XjyV7Ow6qFgC

Hygiene can indeed prevent smegma from sticking around, aka daily showers should be sufficient, I personally also use toilet paper after peeing similarly to how I personally also wash my face each time I wash my hands - it's a habit :P
Anyways, smegma isn't even completely prevented by circumcision and you need to wash just as often https://thecircumcisiondecision.com/smegma/

There is a 6-part series on Psychology Today that makes references to studies and "reality checks" on how circumcision is NOT actually beneficial: www.psychologytoday.com/.../more-circumcision-myths-you-may-believe-hygiene-and-stds (such as, the foreskin becomes retractable at about age 5, aka infants with non-retractable foreskin don't have "phimosis")

Additional info on most health "benefits" being fake here: https://intaction.org/10-myths-about-circumcision/

Technically, the supposed problems circumcision "prevents" can be prevented by taking a daily shower, and knowing you need to retract your foreskin, which takes less than 1 second.

  • Not a chance. Circumcised when I was a baby and hate thinking about a decision that I had no control over.

Wish every day that I could have it back. They have "foreskin restoration," but it's not the same.

  • No I think it's mutilation. At this day in age where people bathe every day it doesn't even really have that many health benefits. Just teach your son how to wash his penis and tell him to wear condoms it's honestly not that hard. That's like cutting off your baby's ears because kids don't clean their ears and they can get infected. I mean yeah but a penis honestly isn't any more difficult to clean than a vagina. If a girl can handle washing themselves so can a boy.

I agree with everything Mesonfielde said. My boyfriend had a botched tight circumcision. He has no frenellum they freaking cut it off (so nope when I like it it's not the most sensitive part of his penis. He'll never know what that feels like it got taken away from him), absolutely NO foreskin (his penis is completely slick like there is not even a teeny bit of excess skin) and I'm pretty sure that's why it leans so far to the left when it gets hard. They took off so much of his foreskin his penis literally cannot get all the way hard because there isn't enough skin so it adjusts itself based on that and yeah I've seen regular penises that lean his isn't the case. You'd just have to see it, but it looks like it wants to force it's way out of the skin when he gets hard it's bad. There are worse botched circumcisions to where the guy can't even get hard or have sex EVER. Why would I risk that for my kid? So they don't get yeast infections? There's medicine for that now. So they have a SLIGHTLY lower chance of catching an STI? They should be wearing condoms. It's not worth it in my opinion.

Like I said on another post earlier circumcision made perfect sense in Biblical times up until about the 60s because people didn't bathe everyday/shared bath water and were more active (so they sweated more) all which were breeding grounds for bacteria and people weren't encouraged to use condoms. Nowadays people shower everyday hell twice a day! And we also know to practice safe sex

  • No way. I've researched this for years and have talked to medical anthropologist about the practice and the lies we are told (hygiene, etc) about why to do it. Most people who advocate circumcision have never even seen the procedure being done but are willing to hand their newborn over to a stranger who's going to cut on his penis. And we wonder why men have trust issues...

Most of the world is NOT circumcised. The practice dates back to ancient Egypt and creating slaves who were both easily controlled and aggressive from the Hebrew population. It then trickled down to the Abrahamic religions and spread.

This early violation leaves a mark. No doubt. I think it does special, subconscious damage on a man's view of women. His mother, his first protector, had a piece of his dick cut off. When she should have been protecting him, she was no where to be found. Especially the way it is done in hospitals, it is AWFUL. They strap the baby down and he's screaming. This is a newborn!

AND, of the men I've had sex with, the uncircumcised ones were more present and considerate lovers who didn't have the sexual hang ups, fetishes or domination needs that my circumcised lovers thrived on.

I have known men who choose to have it done later in life (rites of passage in African cultures or conversion to Judaism or Islam). He can make the choice as a man with NO consequences. It is his body and a permanent change should be his choice.

Honestly, the practice should be outlawed. See a circumcision done before you advocate it, especially done in the hospital and tell me that shit isn't traumatic as all hell. I was traumatized and it wasn't even happening to me!

    • If anyone wants to watch a circumcision done, feel free to see this for yourself:
      www.dailymotion.com/.../xjkd30_infant-circumcision-injection-and-procedure_news

    • If think you have nothing in common with religious people, you are wrong. Look at how preachy you are and how you deceive people to convert them to your opinions. Anti-circumcision people are a religious cult. "This early violation leaves a mark. No doubt. I think it does special, subconscious damage on a man's view of women. His mother, his first protector, had a piece of his dick cut off." Um, doesn't the father help determine circumcision? "AND, of the men I've had sex with, the uncircumcised ones were more present and considerate lovers who didn't have the sexual hang ups, fetishes or domination needs that my circumcised lovers thrived on." That is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard.

    • @LOVEUSAUK so why exactly is it beneficial again to cause scars and permanent alteration to the male genitalia while they're infants that are incapable of consent - and cause risks of bleeding to death or catching infections, and basically increasing the risk of causing future sexual and psychological problems, feelings of inadequacy and anguish, and possible hatred towards one's parents? Maybe even suicide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bw24j0Litlc

  • No, I will never have a future son circumcised unless it is absolutely needed. Otherwise, he can get his penis circumcised on his own as an adult if he so wishes. My fiance is from Serbia where babies are not normally circumcised at all, and he thinks there is a weird obsession with it here in Canada.

Anyone who says circumcision is beneficial for hygienic reasons is full of bullshit. You should all be aware that the foreskin can be retracted when the penis is soft, and then you clean the head of the penis. The foreskin can be stretched a bit to be cleaned underneath. It's nearly effortless and my fiance does it in the shower everyday, so why can't anyone else?

  • No, because
    1. I'm not religious and
    2. I'm well aware of the fact that you can clean your penis by pulling the foreskin back and washing it with water. It is sufficient enough as a cleaning method. Cutting off the foreskin on boys for "hygienic reasons" would be just about as stupid as cutting off the labia on girls for "hygienic reasons". Has anyone ever heard of showers and baths? Hello?

    • That is too problematic.. You have no idea.. hahaha

    • @nerdyasianman14 you mean cleaning yourself is difficult? It's no more difficult than brushing your teeth. The majority of guys in my country are uncircumcised. And so far, I have yet to hear about any problems.

    • @nerdyasianman14 it's difficult only if you don't wash your penis after masturbation. But who doesn't? Otherwise it is fairly self-explanatory - retract foreskin, use shower, stop having it retracted, done. Retraction and "unretraction" takes a maximum of 1 second or so. Total. If you are slow. Lumos is right, even washing your teeth takes more effort.

  • nope, i watched my little brother go through it when he was 11 and he wasn't given a choice, its a cruel act to do to anybody, likewise i also detest female circumcision (check wiki)

    • he was ELEVEN and HAD TO go through with it? :O

    • my parents forced him, he was tied down to a bed and didn't get a say in it, even fought while restrained and during the surgery, after all that he swore eternal hatred to my parents and all doctors, i can't blame him and since i hate my father and distrust doctors as well i find his hatred justified we were baptized as babies and were forced into catholism as children but i broke off from the religion when i was 14 and him as early as 8, neither of us believed doctors and i think of them as people who like to play god, mainly since they killed my grandfather over a fake illness and because i hate surgery of any kind and especially obgyn's and doctors in birthing surgeries/operations

    • :O that's even worse than being circumcised as a baby :O I have no words...

  • Hell no! There is no reason too, I know that sometimes the foreskin can be tight and need to be loosened as with my fiancée, however they gave him a vertical cut as opposed to just cutting it off, so he retained his foreskin. So he isn't and none of his brothers are. I've lived in the U. S. and Europe for a woman sex with an uncut man is much better.
It's not hard to clean the penis, it takes 10 seconds at most
It doesn't look weird, it's not a deformity, it's not like it hangs over his head for 5 inches flapping in the wind.
Sex is better for uncut men as the head of the penis is more sensitive as its protected from constant contact
My sister had a little boy a year ago, I told her all of this. She still had it done. She says now it's her greatest regret. Now that she's done more research on it after the fact, she feels guilty for doing it

    • A bit too late for the research, she's already made a *permanent* decision for someone else...

    • I know, thus the guilt she feels. There's a reason she did it. Her husband is very weird about sexuality. His father is a gay tranny, who abandoned them. And he was left with his drunken mother and little brother. So he was extremely paranoid about his son being joked for something sexual they way he was joked for his father growing up. I'm not saying it's an excuse. But that's the reason

  • the problem with waiting for them to be old enough to decide on their own is that by the time they figure it out it's kind of late for that, what guy would like to go get cut as a grown man and pay money.
I have three boys two dads I made it their respinsablity to decide for their son the dad that was cecumcised chose the same for his. I have no prefrance.

  • ... 2 people for hygienic reasons.
science fact for you people. Pull up the foreskin! We're living in a world where doctors are debating it a lot of alergies are due to being TOO clean, and you change the body of a person UNWILLINGLY because of the reason.

Also, you're fucking with the guy's sex life, and here's why!
    www.theweeklings.com/.../Sorrells-Chart-copy.jpg
see how it affects sensitivity? Have fun explaining that to your kid!

Am i preachy? Yes! Do i have a reason yo? It's mutilation, so i'd say i do. In fact, sircumsission is the ONLY legallt accepted surgery you can perform on a child unless there's a medical reason for it.

    • When you compare this map upload.wikimedia.org/.../...e_at_Country_Level.png with this map
      i.kinja-img.com/.../dro4m54f1faaq3vtqha2.jpg
it might explain why US Americans, Canadians and Australians are leading in 'longest intercourse'. The countries with higher circumcision prevalence would probably rank even higher if they used that app.

    • Also you can relate that to a lack of stimulation, due to the loss of nerve endings as a result of the cutting. And are YOU claiming that cut people are more sexually enduring? You know what i see? I see a red north america, annd a BLUE russia/china at the top. Plus, the lands mentioned from Europe are also among the top 10! Also you have a HUGE grey area in the REST of the Europe that the stats doesn't speak about! Sorry, but all i see is stats pointing BOTH ways, thus NULLIFYING eachother. Besides, you're arguing that it's ok to cut a kid to make him last longer in bed... Does that sound fucked up to you? And those stats only measures time in seconds. What about how much they enjoyed it? How pleasurable it felt? There's more to sex than just how long you last!

    • Those are really shitty maps. 20-80% under one color? 10 countries only? Average duration being 3:30? Rofl, this is definitely a result of p*rn influnce. There's no way that's normal. I can't even brush my teeth properly in 3 minutes.

  • Yes, I am. I think a circumcised penis just looks better than an uncircumcised one. The extra skin looks homely and it's unnecessary. And, I would remove the skin when he's first born because we're already at the hospital and it's a fairly normal procedure for newborn males. Waiting until he's older would require surgery or a very painful at home procedure. The surgery would likely be much more costly than if it was removed when he was first born, and would require anesthetics.

I probably feel this way because I've been circumcised my entire life.

    • @Mesonfielde talk to me

    • 'mkay

      a study:
Circumcised Penis Requires More Care in Young Boys
The circumcised penis requires more care than the natural penis during the first three years of life, according to a report in the British Journal of Urology. The clinical findings of an American pediatrician showed that circumcised boys were significantly more likely to have skin adhesions, trapped debris, irritated urinary opening, and inflammation of the glans (head of the penis) than were boys with a foreskin. Furthermore, because there are large variations of appearance in circumcised boys, circumcision for COSMETIC REASONS should be DISCOURAGED.

      Aka
"The extra skin looks homely and it's unnecessary"
"I probably feel this way because I've been circumcised my entire life."

Doesn't really justify a PERMANENT and IRREVERISBLE choice you'd make in place of someone else, which can also backfire and look wrong, or cause painful erections and make sex painful too ( www.reddit.com/.../ckdkq54 )

    • if you know that you're accustomed to it because that's how it's been for you for your entire life, it's also reasonable to assume that someone who grew up with their foreskin intact is "how it should be", in contrast with your personal 'aesthetic' preference. That, and if they'd choose the procedure for themselves, at least they chose it for themselves. You should NOT try to do it at home though because there are many veins in the foreskin and it could easily cause bleeding to death (which, by the way, is a possible risk of 'neonatal infant circumcision'). And most importantly, never forget - just because you're accustomed to your penis having been circumcised, that doesn't guarantee that your children would think the same way. It is their body, and they'd have to live with it for their entire lifetime. Never forget: it IS an irreversible process that stays with them for life.

  • I told my fiancé that when we have kids and if we have a boy then it's 100% his choice whether we circumsize or not. He told me that he wants to because it's difficult, especially when they're little, to keep the area under the foreskin clean and wants to minimize the risk of infection.

    • Umm, when they're too young to do it, it's the job of the parents to bath and clean them?

    • Duh, no shit. However, when they're so small they can't bath themselves it's hard to get into all the little books and crannies. Then when their too old to be bathed by a parent but still too young to be awesome at bathing they'll probably miss some spots. When I was little I usually forgot to wash the bottom of me feet because I was always standing and showering. Didn't make my parents bad parents or irresponsible, it just what happens. Also I don't care one way or another about circumcision. That was just one of the many reasons my fiancé gave for why we'd be circumsizing our son.

    • Ok, I respect that. Can I just add this, in my (European) country people only circumcize for religious reasons, so over 80% aren't circumsized. And I've never heard of little boys' penis infections because they couldn't/didn't know how to clean themselves. Actually, it's never heard of. So you can safely scratch that from his list. That is all.

  • This is saying if I have kids and if one was a boy. Definitely not! My boyfriend is uncircumcised and I honestly love it. It's a rather cruel and unfair tradition. Is it not?

  • I'm not having children. If I did have a son, I would consult with my husband & doctor, & try to determine what the best option is. I hate the idea of taking a knife to an innocent baby, especially without anesthetics, so I'd probably lean more towards uncircumcised. But I'd still hear what the doctor & my husband have to say.

  • No, I wouldn't take away his freedom of choice. He can make his own choice when he's old. Who am I to intervene?

  • NEVER!
A: it's a human rights issue!!! Not medically necessary -> no treatment! This goes for everything! So religion can not be used as an excuse anymore.
B: this: http :// www. circumstitions. com/Functions. html
C: as a woman who has had many experience with both uncircumsised and circumsised I can truly say: uncircumsised wins!!! See B for that as well.
D: to follow up on c: it's easier and more fun to give blow jobs and hand jobs
E: I truly believe that uncircumsised men have more enjoyment!

Anyone who would circumsise their child without it being medically necessary is taking away a human right from their own child.

I'm appaled by the answers gives. So many would for hygiene purposes? WTF! You can teach your child to clean like we touch children how to brush your teeth. Before that time you clean your child's penis yourself. Uncut European men don't have any hygiene issues down under. And if they do is due to their own OVERALL lack of hygiene.

  • Not a chance in the world will he ever be touched by doctors in such ways.

  • No, it's his decision and I think foreskin is cute

  • Will leave that up to him when he is old enough, should I ever have a baby boy.

  • No, why would I? It's the XXI century, so hygiene can be easily maintained without mutilating the child. I'm also an atheist, so religious reasons go right out the window. As for aesthetics... seriously? A dick is a dick. It is used for pissing and it is used for fucking. It was never exactly meant to be pretty, cut or otherwise.

  • he can choose.

  • HELL NO! I'm not going to allow my daughters or sons to be genitally mutilated! And FYI cutting off the foreskin means around 20,000 nerve endings are lost. That's a lot of erogenous tissue. And men and women can feel a lot more pleasure with a foreskin. :) I don't want to deny my sons the right to THEIR body. And I don't want them to lose an estimate of 30% of penile sensitivity due to removal of the sensitive and protective foreskin. Circumcision is bullsh! t anyways. Just another scam by Them to make $$$$$$. They'll make money off the procedure, the saved foreskin for cosmetics and lubricant for a dried out calloused penis with an ugly scar as proof of MGM. (Male Genital Mutilation)

    • THEY HAVE A USE FOR THOSE FORESKINS? Are you serious? o_O

    • Do you use any face creams? You could be smearing sexually tortured baby foreskin on your face...

    • I personally have heard they were used for replacement skin in plastic surgery. But apparently I'm wrong, I find nothing about that. However... "The most disturbing and alarming [controversy] is in the unethical trafficking of neonate foreskins. Not only do parents of North American baby boys have to pay between $200 to $300 to obstetricians to circumcise their boys that no sooner are the circumcised foreskins cut off that they are sold on to bio-engineering and cosmetics companies by the hospitals." "foreskin fibroblasts are big business. A fibroblast is a piece of human skin that is used as a culture to grow other skin or cells -- like human yogurt kits. Human foreskin fibroblast is used in all kinds of medical procedures from growing skin for burn victims and for eyelid replacement, to growing skin for those with diabetic ulcers (who need replacement skin to cover ulcers that won't heal), to making creams and collagens in the cosmetics industry..."
