Girls, do you know when you're ovulating? My gf keeps track in a calendar on her phone. Is that normal?

My girlfriend has a calendar that marks her period, days she ovulates and days that we've had sex. She always makes me wear a condom during the week she ovulates. Do you actually know when this happens? Why do you think she does this?

  • First of all, I just want to echo the people who say you should be using a condom anyway. Cycle tracking isn't foolproof.

None of my girlfriends have done this, to my knowledge, but I actually used to keep track of/for my ex. I did it for a few reasons: 1) We spent our last year together in a long-distance relationship, which meant that when we did see each other we were going to be having sex regardless of her cycle. It was always good to know ahead of time if I'd be engaging in period sex; 2) She had a tendency to forget when it was supposed to happen and, if we were going away somewhere, would end up without a proper supply of tampons; 3) Her PMS was like a x10 multiplier of her bad moods. It was helpful to know when that was going to happen; 4) She got super horny when she was ovulating. It was helpful to know when that was going to happen too, lest I be caught wearing thin fabric while she was making sexual overtures in public.

  • just an FIY for you: sperm has been shown to be able to survive ONE to TWO weeks inside the womb, so better wrap it at all times bro.
I know the average is 3-7 days, but better safe than sorry, right?

  • Of course it's normal to track your cycle on an app. It's not 100% true of course, just a rough estimate of when certain events likely will occur, so take it with a grain of salt and make sure to be cautious regardless.

I do check my period-tracking app occasionally to know roughly when I'll be ovulating or getting my monthly which is likely the case with your girlfriends, but usually I can do without. It's nice to see where in your cycle you'll be for upcoming events or vacations so you can hopefully plan around going to Hawaii or Mexico when you're suppose to get your period. Likewise, it's good to know when you'll be ovulating so you can practice super safe sex.

If I'm horny beyond belief paired with a little extra clear discharge, I know I'm ovulating.

  • After reading all the answers I think I am of the few that doesn't track it xD It is just difficult with me because my period is extremely irregular, so I never know when it is coming, it can come early or very late, sometimes I haven't had it in two or three months, I just know it is coming like one or two days before it comes, I thought keeping track of it was odd, but maybe it isn't that odd xD

  • I use the app too, but I can actually feel when I ovulated I started to use the app to make sure I wasn't trippin but better safe than sorry use birth control. I understand some religion don't believe in birth control and use the tracking method but the you'd be married huh.

  • I do the same , these apps are very helpful. it's quite normal to use that kind of apps

  • Yes I have that period app lol. But I can usually tell when I'm ovulating from physical changes in my body!

  • I have an app like that too. Those apps usually calculate mid-cycle as day of ovulation, but physical changes are a more accurate predictor, such as when cervical mucous discharge is clear and stringy it means the lady is likely very fertile that day.

  • yeah i use an app.

  • yea i do use an app like that lol

  • Totally normal. It helps you be extra careful when you're ovulating and to know when to expect your period. It's not a foolproof method, however. I had a friend get pregnant from unprotected sex in a "safe" week.
