How long is it supposed to hurt after your first time?

I lost my virginity about two weeks ago, and while it doesn't hurt nearly as much as it did the first time, it still hurts when my boyfriend first puts it in. After a bit I guess something relaxes and he's able to go in all the way and the pain subsides. Is that normal? Or am I still getting past whatever it is that makes it really painful the first time?

  • It's probably because you still have some hymen left. After it's all gone, it won't hurt ever again. If the pain goes as you relax than maybe you're nervous which can cause pain in itself because your body will shut off and sex just won't work. Relax and don't worry about. Ask your boyfriend to go slow. Eventually the pain will go completely and sex will be really enjoyable for you. :)

    • Thanks for the advice =) Though, is it really the hymen that causes problems? I read that was only a myth.

    • No, it isn't a myth, they're what hurts because it's basically the ripping of flesh which causes the bleeding. Most women have a hymen, some have partial ones, some have full ones (more painful) and some are born without one at all. They can break before you even get round to having sex. If you don't know your own anatomy, you shouldn't be having sex. You can find a lot about the hymen online with real pictures of what they look like.

    • Well it's a little too late for that, thanks =\ I'll read up on it more though I suppose. However, I would think that if it really was being "ripped" away, there would be some flesh coming out during/after sex.

  • My wife was a virgin when we started having sex. I took a good two months before it started to really feel good. It would hurt for her too at first. Same thing, she would have to relax and then she could take me deeper. Your body just has to get use to it. I will take time, perfectly normal.

  • It can hurt for upto a month and be normal. Usually adequate rest speeds recovery.
