Amount of hair on your body = Sex drive

I was talking to one of my friends, and he brought up how testosterone is responsible for the amount of hair you have on your body, and it is also partially responsible for your sex drive. I have always felt like I have excess hair... I've always been self conscious about it, but I have a very high sex drive. His girlfriend barely has any hair on her body, and she has a very low sex drive. I know there are many different things responsible for the amount of hair someone has, and their sex drive, but I'm just curious how accurate this hypothesis is, thanks for taking the time to answer =) ..and when I say 'a lot of hair' I don't mean that you resemble Big Foot, I just mean your arms have pretty visible hair, maybe you shave them, your neck has a little hair, if you got a really short hair cut they'd have to shave your neck as well. and not having a lot of hair means you rarely have to shave, your legs have barely any hair, let alone your arms.

  • Well, I'm very hairy. With the exception of my back & butt, my chest looks like a chia-pet and my legs are worse! In the summer-time, I actually wake up with dead mosquitoes trapped inside my leg fur.

But as far as sex drive and testosterone go; both are quite low.

I've been going to my urologist and endocrinologist for 3 years now to try and figure out what's going on. My testosterone is in not even "low-range", it's "below range". My sex drive is practically non-existent, and I suffer from anorgasmia & delayed ejaculation.

    Factors that effect hair growth:

    - Genetics

    - Dehydroxytestosterone (DHT for short - which gets reduced from testosterone via the enzyme called 5a-reductase) The hormone has negative androgenic effects such as increased belly fat, hair loss, and enlargement of the prostate gland.

    Factors that effect sex-drive:

    - Serotonin

    - Testosterone

    - Estrogens (All three major estrogen groups)

    - LH & FSH

Now, men and women have these hormones work differently inside their body. For men, the dominant hormone is testosterone. For women, the dominant hormones are both testosterone and estrogen.

Testosterone is important because it's not a final-destination "end-product" hormone. It can either be aromatized through the enzyme "aromatase" and be converted into an estrogen group, or it can be reduced via 5a-reductase into DHT.

A lot of hair is correlated with high levels of DHT; (WHICH ARE NOT ALWAYS CORRELATED WITH HIGH LEVELS OF TESTOSTERONE!). If the body produced very efficient 5a-reductase enzymes, or simply makes many of them; then the hair could be a result of high testosterone-to-DHT conversion, rather than high testosterone.

Women who take type-I aromatase-inhibitors (such as Aromasin) for breast cancer or type-II aromatase inhibitors in their diet may experience a sudden jump in their sex-drive. This is because the enzyme responsible for converting testosterone into estrogen is inhibited; and not doing its job. The testosterone is allowed to stack inside the body; changing the nature of the person's sexual desire more than their sex drive.

Sex-drive's biggest proponent is SHBG (sex hormone binding globulin); which traps and holds onto testosterone within the bloodstream. On the cellular level, if testosterone is trapped by SHBG, it is inactive. Therefore, it's possible to have high amounts of testosterone; but very low amounts of "free" testosterone acting within your bloodstream due to high levels of SHBG.

So unfortunately, thanks to the body's natural biochemical buffers & enzymes, the correlation to any one hormone is not as simple as high testosterone = high sex drive.

    • My boyfriend is extremely hairy and also has significant "finishing" issues. I have been afraid to discuss it with him without more knowledge or something helpful to say. Have you found any solutions, or know something that may help?

  • hmmm, good point and it makes sense...females with hairy arms tend to have more testosterone than other women. Testosterone gives humans their sex drive. Yes all women have testosterone just like all men have estrogen. its just the ratio difference, men have slightly lore testosterone than estrogen and women have slightly more estrogen that testosterone.

In the case of women with hairy arms/legs..the percentage of testosterone is a bit higher in those women(hence the extra hair). makes perfect sense you might have a slighter higher sex drive than your average women.

Never thought about it until now.

  • Since I was 13 or early 14 I have been what you would say on the hairy side of average, my father always told me to go to the hairdresser/barber to get my hair and neck hair cut as I had a quick growth. At 15 other boys in my class at school noticed and told me that I had the hairiest legs and the most amount of pubic hair as well. I have also had a high sex drive, for example I masturbated a lot in my teens and once I was married I made love to my wife frequently for all the 39 years we were married. At first I did suspect that being hairy was one of the reasons that made me sexy but I did not have any proof of that until I read other reports from men and women saying the same thing as I had always suspected. Its a lot to do with high testosterone and genes. I have never been tested regarding how high my testosterone is but I suspect it is above the average of whatever the average is, I think I would be too embarrassed to go to the doctor just to ask for a test as I have NO problems whatever with that, its more likely that people who do have problems with their sex drive who would go for a test to get some sort of pills to improve and get a better sex life with their wives/husband or whatsoever.
I always remember when I used to go clubbing or dancing and saw couples kissing and snogging that the guys who did that always seemed to have hairy arms around the waist of their girlfriends, I too have had hairy arms and yes when I was dating I used to kiss a cuddle my then girlfriend a lot, another example of hairy guys being sexy and wanting to touch and fondle their girlfriends as much as possible, hairy gene equals 'sexy' gene. This is not to say just because a man or woman is not hairy and is smooth they cannot have a good sex life, of course they can but I suppose the frequency is not a much as us hairier people.
There are always exceptions to any rules but overall, yes us hairy men and women do TEND, not always to be more sexy and want to have sex a bit more than people who are less hairy, I do think for the majority of hairy people that there is a connection.

  • Omg that is soo true! I have a lot of hair and I am super horny! My sex drive is ridiculous I would do it like everyday maybe 2 or 3 times if I could! Don't worry my salon makes big money because I get rid of it lol but yeah, whenever I would hear about people who only wanted to do it like 2 or 3 times a week I always thought that wasn't normal but maybe I just have too much testosterone?

    • No such thing as too much =) you're perfect the way you are, and I'm sure your guy will really appreciate you how you are! lol

  • There is a link between hair and testosterone levels (both men and women) which affects libido, but my guess is that the other factors (ethnic group, genetics, etc) are a bigger factor in determining hair growth than extra testosterone is in most cases. Of course, I'm not a geneticist, so...

    • Oh I completely agree with you, I know this is a small component, but it's an interesting one enough to see some poll results over

  • I too have quite the amount of hair, but I try to keep it maintained to raise my "marketability" and for my own self-esteem.

I have noticed that the larger quantity of hair, in women and in men, MAY effect their sex drive (increasing) but I don't believe this is enough scientific proof to be like "Look for a hairy Son of a B*tch and he will rock your world"

    =) Just bein' me,

    ArtistBBoy

    • Lol agreed

  • Audrey, I don't think there is any real connection. I have what I think is a high sex drive, like at least come once each day, with or without my partner. I only need to shave like once a week. Perhaps I am an exception, but more likely there is no real correlation.

  • I don't think I have that much body hair, but I have a really high sex drive so idk

  • Average hair - Average sex drive?! :)

    • What I mean by that is. I don't tend to have a lot of body hair and the hair I do is fairly light. But the hair on my head grows REAL quick. And I like to have sex like any other person, at least once a week but not exceeding 5 times. So that would be average?!

    • I guess average, for me that sounds low, but I have a pretty high sex drive, so I think you are accurate by saying average =)

  • Lots of body hair, and high sex drive. Yes for me :)

  • I am hairy like animal baby, yeah!

  • I will agree with this. I have a buddy that has always been a hairy beast. He is losing it on his head now, but he has the shoulder hair, lower back hair, ton of leg, chest and armpit hair. I have a ton on my head for a guy who is 30 I think...in fact I get my haircut every 4th week otherwise it gets real bushy. I have to trim my eyebrows and nose hairs regularly as well. My hair is light, so it doesn't look like I have that much, until it gets wet -- then my chest hair looks long...I have shaved it a couple times -- so maybe that makes it grow back thicker? I already mentioned my libido earlier today in a question...it is clicking along at about max capacity if you ask me, ie, I think about and want it with my gal about any hour of the day.

  • I have pretty hairy arms... and a very high sex drive. My boyfriend is hardly hairy, but he's keeping up with me quite nicely. Not to imply he isn't a tiger.

  • Nope. Regardless of the amount of body hair,
my sex drive will always be the same.

  • Haha, nice theory, but I would say I'm in the normal amount of hair range and I really like sex so...

    • Ya, I mean, you don't have to look like a wildebeest in order for it to have some accuracy =)

  • I'm very hairy my legs look like they belong to a guy. My sex drive is on a 100 even after reaching climax I usually seduce my boyfriend to start over again then masterbate when I get home not because he wasn't enough but I just wanna re-live the moment again. I'm obsessed I'm bisexual I love it with both gender and I think this whole testosterone theory is right.

  • Shit then I must have little considering I barely have much hair on my body to begin with

  • This is not really a scientific statement that you can prove. There are other factors that make you think you see a strong correlation. It could be that women choose particular men, it has nothing to do with whether men with hair automatically is successful with women. Dating powers are shared among men and women, mostly women though choose who they want to be with at the end of the day. Some guys have no choice. It has nothing to do with sex drive. The most boring hairiest man can probably get any woman he wants.

    • And it seems you deliberately chose that avatar. I noticed lots of trolls pic that one.

  • I have a lot of hair too and trust me my sex drive is through the roof. I have more stamina then any guy I've ever slept with.

    • Good luck ;-)

    • I have met a woman like you. She could out f*** me both time we were together. I couldn't keep up with her.

    • Lol never met a guy I couldn't
