Girls, Bv or yeast infection?

Okay so I went to the doctor who claimed I have bv. I'm scared she misdiagnosed me because she just looked and didn't run any tests. I'm also scared bc the antibiotics I was prescribed make me vulnerable to a yeast infection and if I already have one it could make it worse. I just did day 2 of Zidoval and there's no discharge but there's a bit of a sour smell. My symptoms before the meds: thick white discharge with a foul smell, slight itching (typically after that time of the month), accompanied burning with the itching, uncomfortable sexual intercourse, and some burning while urinating. I know you guys aren't doctors but does anyone have any knowledge about it? I couldn't go to a gynecologist because I haven't been set up with one before so I went to my wellness doctor. Anyone expierence this? Also has anyone used zidoval (5 day) gel and had a successful story? If so please let me know how it went!

  • I believe you were diagnosed correctly. I have had both. At different times and at the same time from taking medicine to treat the bv. However I've never taken the medicine you are. I was prescribed medicine for bv and something for a yeast because the bv could cause a yeast. Then another time I went for bv then after the 10 days of the medicine I've always taken thought I had another bv but instead it was a yeast from the medicine. Which brings me to my next point. The symptoms for both are very similar but with bv (especially if you go to long before going to the doctor) it smells like something crawled inside of you and died. Yea, I know gross but its the truth. One more thing you said this happens after your menstrual cycle? If so watch for pads or tampons that are scented (I can't wear pads at all after I had children or it always leads to this), bubble bath, fabric softener, lotion that could run or get near the vaginal somehow (obviously your not going to put it directly in/on your vagina, etc. Hope that helps!!

  • I usually get both at the same time so it is possible that you have both and seperately but thought I got both again. Just take the medicine as prescribed and call an og/byn if the symptoms don't go away.

    • I was thinking that too but this doctor of mine diagnoses yeast infections with infants so I'm hoping she was right about it. But I'm not experiencing any yeast infection symptoms at the moment though this medication would worsen it if I had one so I seriously hope this will cure it for bv.
