What is the best form of birth control?

I am starting nuva ring in 2 days to regulate my cycle. But if i decide i don't like it or it doesn't work after the first three months? What are the safest and most effective? i heard a lot of bad things about it so i am curious if the patch or shot could be other options? I am not sexually active by the way believe it or not don't plan on changing it anytime soon. I hate suffering during that time of month.

For those who don't know what I am talking about the nuva ring is inserted vaginally. I have a hormonal imbalance I don't produce enough estogen. My periods are extremely irregular. I have cysts on my ovaries which are extremely painful. The conditions are called Polycystic Ovary Syndrome & Endometriosis. Both hurt like a bitch. But I need this birth control for the Estogen. It will help with the mood swings that I get. The cysts will come and go.

  • You're going to hear bad things about every single form and option of birth control without exception. I was on a pill that my sister LOVES and it gave me horrible PMS. Like oh my god D:

If you decide the ring doesn't work for you, then you'll talk with your doctor about why you don't like it and you'll try something new nbd :)

Personally I really like the ring so far. You can completely skip periods with no ill effects. You just leave it in 28 days instead of 21 and poof! No period :D Plus you don't have to try and remember a pill at a specific time every day and you're being exposed to a lower dose of hormones since the delivery method is so much closer to the source. It's awesome.

    • You are supposed to take a break for 1 week.

    • My gynecologist is the one who told me you can leave it in. I guess that when you have a period on bc it's not even a real period anyway? So skipping them is Nbd. Either way you can use it the way your dr told you to and then ask about it after your 3 month trial right?

  • I've been on the pill for about 3 years. I like it a lot, and have had no side effects. It also helps with periods greatly. I would recommend it to anyone that is responsible and can remember to take it around the same time everyday. You can also set an alarm on your phone if you can't remember. All birth control have potential safety issues, but the pill is supposed to be 99% effective if ALWAYS used correctly.

  • I'm on the pill but I'd be curious how NuvaRing works out for you.

    • So far it is alright. I know the risks. And I have no health conditions and I am not a smoker.

  • not to have sex is the best form of control, but otherwise to go on the pill and to wear condoms every time.

    • Your body, your choice. If you want to be safe, you can combine several of them.

    • She said she's not sexually active. Birth control does more for women than help prevent pregnancy :/

    • i've heard it has more side effects than benefits... .

    • Not for someone who's having horrible irregular periods every 3-4 weeks
