I agree, it has to do a lot with the things you've been conditioned to as a child.
For example, most cartoons are more or less just like this:
they portray an average and otherwise unremarkable male trying to win the affections of a female who is symbolic of ideal beauty. since the male is not of equal beauty, he must do things to compensate and get her interested in him.
boys digest this information as; I have to do things for girls to get them to like me, I have to try and get beautiful girls to like me, and that is what beautiful girls look like. why? because that's what cartoons (a proxy for society in general) says
since they are children at the point in time where their unconscious mind is being programmed, they don't take a step back and analyze the situation, and ignore the fact that a hot nurse would unlikely go out with an average window-washer; that is truly a thought best left for cartoons and disney.
more importantly, they also fail to call key aspects about the information they're being fed into question:
- what if the man was attractive instead of average or ugly (Beauty & the Beast)?
- what if the man was also symbolic of ideal beauty in a man?
- how would the interaction be different in these cases?
and more importantly; the million dollar question;
- why is this the ideal beauty?
at this age, a child is not so analytical. in fact, a child is very suggestible. you can just feed it suggestions and for the most part, it will accept them as truth; without ever calling them into question. you can sell it things like the existance of the tooth fairy, santa clause, religion, etc, and for as long as very basic principles of psychology apply; (social proof, social acceptance, fear of social rejection for failure to agree or conform to group beliefs, etc) it will just nod and accept them, and drill them deep into its unconscious mind.
Why do I personally prefer girls who are short, small, petite, tiny, with small hips, butts, thighs and even breasts?
Consciously? Because I find them attractive
Unconsciously?
1. because my biggest fear is my wife (long-term partner) turning fat. girls with that body frame are more unlikely to pack on the pounds than a girl with a much larger frame.
2. excess body fat is highly correlated with serious health problems. back in the day, big and fat was sexy, because resources were scarce. a big girl with excess fat meant higher chances the children wouldn't die of starvation. today, that's no longer a problem, so there's no benefit of excess body fat (to me, personally), only costs & negatives.
3. my grandmothers and mom are overweight, and I don't find them sexually attractive. so a girl who I feel is going to remind me of them in a couple of years just turns me off completely.
As the other answerer said, it may have something to do with exposure, but then again I've seen some very thin black women.
It's an interesting question, maybe it's that black women tend to have wider hips? I'll be interested to see other answers.

Personal observation, there is a large black population where I live so maybe these girls do things to make them look bigger, I don't know I'm attracted to white girls.
Yeah, but think about it it doesn't make sense. Because of skin pigmentation my hips will be wider? Either you have it or you don't. Where I live some of us black girls have hips some of us don't. Some of us have thighs some of us have butts. Black guys like a little meat on their girls, that's all. But hips being bigger? makes no sense.
I live in a predominately black neighborhood and I myself am African-American. To tell you the truth I do not know. I am a slim black girl with a butt that sticks out and I get attention all day from these black guys. I guess they like girls with a little junk in their trunk. They don't like skinny skinny girls. I do not know y there is such a big difference culturally. I guess it has to do with liking what you grew up around.
Just like different cultures are different, different subcultures are different. I don't know if it's something that can be explained in simple terms.

What's Your Opinion? Sign Up Now!I don't think it is even true. The whole big black d*** thing is a myth to. Most guys like women with a nice round ass --- but not fat. Proportion is what matters. Black guys may sing/talk more about girls butts -- but we all like um.
i don't know how it started, but the reason it gets perpetuated is that black guys grow up around fat black women, and they learn to think of that as attractive.
I'm white--I grew up with the idea that the dallas cowboy cheerleaders were attractive.
It's all about what you are exposed to when young.
