Why didn't my boyfriend tell me he had HPV?

My boyfriend and I have been dating for over two years now. He's the only guy I've ever slept with but I'm not the only girl he's ever slept with. Occasionally we'll use condoms but since I'm on the pill and we aren't sleeping around, we don't always. Recently I went for a Pap smear and my results came back HPV positive. Since he's my only partner, it had to have come from him. I brought it up, he finally told me he had HPV and that he should have told me sooner. He said he was too embarrassed to tell me when we started having sex and now he feels really bad. I'm extremely hurt by this because this means he had or still has a complete lack of concern for my sexual health. Why wouldn't he tell me in the first place so we could have taken proper precautions?

The majority of people who have STDs are not going to tell you out of embarassment & shame. It is a very small minority of STD carriers who will be upfront and honest with their status. The rest of them will just either never bother to get tested so they dont know they have it, or they will find out they have it and pretend they never got the news and keep burning people. Some are even maliciously spreading their diseases

He is wrong as hell for not telling you, but you had unprotected sex with a guy that you did not bother to get tested with so this is a result of that. No offense but let this be a lesson to you because while HPV sucks, at least it isn't HIV

he cheated with a slut who gave it him. If you asked him through text he could always come up with a lie. but if you shocked him about it to your face then you'd know he cheated. Basically.
It's the seasonal flu of STDs , it goes away on its own and most people don't see it as worthy of mentioning as oppose to say... HIV or Herpes or Gonorrhea.
