Girls, I went for my first gyno visit and she put her finger up my ass. What gives?

It is not so common as before and not all ob/gyns do it but its part of the exam. They need to check behind the uterus and above the cervix, and the only way to do it is to feel through the rectum. There is also a wall between the vagina and the rectum that she checks this way. It is probably the only time a girl will have a rectal exam, so they are are also checking for problems like lumps and growths inside the rectum.

Even if they don't do this part of the exam most ob/gyns will still at least take a look at the anal area to check for warts and hemorrhoids.

Well, It's not abnormal. Gynecologist can do it to check for unusual masses. Though, it's very weird that your gynecologist did it on a first exam. To be honest, at your age, gynecologist don't necessarily check the vagina. In my entire time going there, it never happened to me.

Agree it is kinda weird she did it for your first visit but it depends on the doctor. I been going since I was 18 with 5 different doctors (moving across the country a lot) and I only ever had the anal exam one time 2 years ago.
