One of my sisters caught her friend fingering herself. Her friend is around 12/13, and she doesn't know what to do and neither do I. Is it normal for her to finger herself? And should I do anything?

It it's normal for a girl her age to discover masturtbation. I say an really inappropriate age would be 8 or younger, because The fact they haven't reached puberty yet. It just seems wrong at that age, and it can confusing and scary as well. Technically a girl can discover masturtbation at any age, same goes for a boy.

If your doing it before puberty then its not something thats natural and your learning it from somewhere - id see that as you being exposed to it somehow and thats negative influence ❌

  Ummmm no I myself can vouche in saying I've been masturbatinh (not to orgasm) since I was a little girl because touching myself felt nice. Children touch themselves constantly because they are curious. Why would they stop doing something that felt good if it wasn't harming them?

  Hummm its ok in that context because that is a natural response... what I meant was if a person who seems to young is being exposed to lets say porn from their older brother for example and the girl is like 8 years old That to me would promote something potential negative going forward

I don't think there is such thing as too young when it comes to masturbation. Sex, yes, there's definitely age that's too young for sex, but masturbation is healthy and does no harm, you're free to do it no matter how old or young you are.

I don't think there is a too young. Even little kids do it, it's pretty healthy and normal for someone to explore their sexuality, and that happens from a pretty young age.

  @JuicyBrain Wha? I'm saying 12/13yo is normal, but for someone like a 5 year old, it would not be. So no, I do NOT think they should. If anything, they hump on things but don't put their fingers on or in their genitals unless taught how to do so by someone. There's a lot of people on here saying it doesn't make a difference what age you are when you start rubbin one out when it does and should matter.

Am I in the twilight zone or something? I didn't even know about fingering or even that I had a hole until I was like, 10 : But I suppose these days kids are encouraged to explore their sexual parts - the earlier the better. That's demented and sick. As for the pre-teen fingering herself, that's her hormones kicking in full force so I can definitely understand. Any child younger than the age of puberty should not go diddling with themselves and adults shouldn't encourage them to do so. If that's not clear to you at 37 years old then the conversation is useless. I'll raise my future children to keep their innocence for a reasonable amount of time if I can help it.

But somehow, a girl who is 5yo who is discovering her body whether by accident or willingly is crazy. So tell me, what is your plan. Do you intend on punishing a 5yo girl for having touched herself? I said 5 yos and children around that age hump on teddy bears & pillows because they don't know better but if I caught my child fingering themselves I would speak with them - not AT them, but assess the situation &find out if there's anything more to it. If not, then fine. But any child displaying certain behaviors needs to be addressed by the guardian and not encouraged - "Yea baby, you're a kindergartner, go ahead &play with yourself all you want!". No. Soon enough, they'll be doing it in public, showing their little friends, or worse. It can't just be ignored.
