Does the penis have to be inside the vagina to cause pregnancy?

I have never had sex (vaginal, anal, oral) before or engaged in any kind of sexual touching/contact. But recently, I just wanted to see whether I could penetrate myself with my finger and how deep I could go. I tried to search for a hole that would allow me to slide my finger in, because that had to be the vaginal opening. But I could only go in up to the first knuckle. There seemed to be something blocking, because I could feel something at my fingertip. I tried relaxing, hoping that would widen the vaginal opening, but apparently, I still couldn't move farther than the first knuckle. WTF? And people said that the average penis size was 5 inches long? Did I just touch my cervix or something? If so, then I must have a very short vagina. 

So, now I'm a bit worried. If I do have a very short vagina, then does that mean my future husband cannot fit the length of the penis into the vagina? I have read that some women can become pregnant just by having sperm on the vulva or near the vagina, so penetration is not necessary to cause pregnancy, is it? And I've never heard of any fertility problems that my mother might have had while trying to conceive me. I once heard her chatting on the phone about her fertility and conception of me, and she just mentioned that conception was easy. Not sure what that meant... could mean she didn't need to see a fertility doctor. I wonder if that would apply to me in that I wouldn't need to be penetrated too deeply in order to conceive.

It's more likely your hymen. My suggestion would be to stimulate your body before attempting penetration by your finger. Here is some good advice that works for me and the step with your vagina through your undies is optional. the big key is constant stimulation and fore play. First I would recommend starting out in the fallowing outfit: T-shirt, bra, and panties, first you start rubbing the top of your pussy over your undies while playing with your boobs over your bra and shirt for about a 3 mins, then while sticking your hand down your panties and rubbing your pussy start taking off your shirts (the key to this is to to switch hands), then take your panties and bra off, then start rubbing your clit for a good 8-10mins , while one hand is still busy with your boobs (I can show you a pic of of a diagram so u can find your clit). That's definitely your hymen, nothing to worry about. My friend recently had sex for the first time and when her boyfriend entered her for the first time, he told her he could feel her hymen (he was experienced). Also it depends on how fertile you are. Some men don't have to enter a woman for her to get pregnant as she's so fertile. Some people try for months, ejaculating inside her with no results. A friend got pregnant with precum but he was inside her. Apparently you can get pregnant if he doesn't enter and he's covered in pre ejaculate. I spoke to a pharmacist.

It is possible your hymen is still intact and that's why you couldn't penetrate deep enough. The only other explanation is, you weren't aroused enough for your vagina to sufficiently dilate. As for pregnancy you cannot get pregnant unless he has ejaculated in you or in rare cases if your vagina was in contact with semen or precum.
The average depth of the vagina is 3 to 4 inches when not sexually aroused, during sex it can easily expand or elongate to accommodate larger objects or penises.

No, it's possible but rare for sperm to make its way into the vagina form the vulva. EverY girls vagina is different some are deep and some are shallow. Hope this helps.

Well, for the first: your vagina is blocked by your muscles inside the vagina. it is much deeper then you think you. I think your first time will be much pain then :( but you can talk with your gynecologist about it.
Your hymen isn't really strong. Maybe you can feel when it will break, but it won't be the pain. The pain will come from the muscles that will be stretched.
The next question: Can you get pregnant when the penis isn't inside your vagina:
Yes, thats possible. But the chance isn't really big, because then there will be only a little bit of the semen inside it.

No, it doesn't HAVE to be in the vagina. It's easier to get pregnant the more semen gets deeper inside, but it can find its way up the vagina.

As for your own experiment, sounds like you weren't aroused when you put your finger in. Being un-aroused and unlubricated will prevent much penetration. When you're turned on, your vagina loosens up and expands to allow room for a penis.

Also, it takes time for your vagina to get used to penetration. It's a muscle, and muscles that you don't use need time to get limber. The more often you have penetration, the easier it gets.

Vaginas are much deeper than 1 knuckle, and they stretch during sex, too. Don't worry about it.

And no, technically you don't need to be penetrated *at all* to conceive. Those little spermies swim for everything they're worth, and sometimes they can get a fair distance.
