How young is too young to lose your virginity?

Me and my boyfriend of six months want to fuck at winter homecoming, but considering he'll be 17 and I'll still be 14 by then, I'm having second thoughts. What age is okay to lose your virginity? If it's alright for me to have sex, then how do I get protection? And is this age gap socially acceptable?

  • Yes, the age gap is acceptable; maybe not now but as you get older: but know that he's turning 18 and you can't have sex for 3 years (until you're 18 too) unless you want your boyfriend to be registered as a sex offender for statuary rape. Personally, I wouldn't give it up to someone who's probably not going to even see me after he leaves to college (don't expect he'll stay celibate for you), and you've only been dating 6 months. Sex is NOT a requirement in a relationship; if he cares for you he'll respect your decisions.

But overall do what you think will impact you in the best way and don't let yourself be pressured into ANYTHING.

For protection, you'll need to go to a doctor for birth control (you can ask your mom because girls take it to regulate heavy periods too), or else use a condom (purchasable anywhere from CVS, target, to 7/11). You might want to get your boyfriend to do that part bc some cashiers will not sell to young people. There are also online sites that will mail you free condoms, just do some research. They'll arrive completely anonymously, w/o your name or anything.

Make sure you do NOT have sex without protection, you could get pregnant, and Plan B, which is $50 at the least is the morning after pill for prevention.

I hope this helps, but bottom line do what makes you happy but be SAFE. Not to impose anything on your boyfriend but many older guys like to date freshmen for sex or physical reasons. But you know your situation the best, PLEASE don't be naive and have regrets later. Also loosing your virginity hurts like f***, you will probably cry.

Damn, I shouldn't have left off with that last sentence :'D

  • I nearly had my first time at 14 and I'm glad that I waited a bit longer. I was 16 when I lost mine and I feel like that was a better time. My best friend at the time lost hers at 14 and I'm sure she regrets it as that same year she got pregnant and had no other choice but to get an abortion and it destroyed her to do that. Another friend was in the same situation as you are 14yo with 17 yo and they had sex and they are still together to this day. In all honestly it's a decision you need to make yourself and your boyfriend needs to be understanding so even when you get to the moment and you change your mind, he won't try to change it back.

  • Should you?
    I don't think so.
But , if you're ready, that's for you to decide.
But he's 17, likely purposefully taking advantage of you.. And you may regret not waiting a bit longer, or you may not.

Protection wise, hopefully he takes care of it. But, you can purchase condoms at basically any drug store, no age requirements.

    • That's true, the part where he might be taking advantage of me. I mean, right now he's 16, but that's still older than me. Thank you

    • I mean, he may be a good guy. But I just remember watching all the guys my age (when I was like, a senior), go after all the freshman girls because they knew they were more vulnerable and more likely to give them what they wanted. With the exception of some guys of course. And maybe I'm just biased because nobody liked me at 14/15 so I didn't experience it first hand. Just got to watch it happen to everyone else hahah

    • Aww i'm sorry <3 And thank you! Do you think he would've waited three months if he's trying to use me?

  • I'm afraid this wouldn't be the best decision you'd make. I suggest you wait. Considering the fact that he's 17.. and you 14!! You're toooo young to lose your virginity noow!
    Wait till you're 17-18. Preferably 18.

    • Lol ok. Thank you!

    • Sure!

    • I agree with you

  • That might be statutory rape; be careful - you don't want your boy labeled a sex offender for life!

No idea how someone underage gets protection >< Maybe he can pick it up?

As for the age gap... well, keep in mind that the chances of you two staying together after he gets out of school are low. If you're okay with it, and really want the sex, then it's a better situation. 3 years is still a big gap at your age. ... you've reached the point where you have to make your own decisions on things like this.

  • I would wait a few years. Your bodies are physically ready for sex, but emotionally it can be tough. Consider sticking with handjobs and fingering. Take it slow. If/when you ever do decide to have sex talk about birth control first. Consider some heavy fooling around first. Don't jump right into sex You can only give up your virginity once. Make sure it is the right guy at the right time in your life. Your thoughts?

    • I agree. Thank you

  • It's up to you, there's no right age but you're questioning it so I think you should wait, only you will be able to tell if "its alright". He's 17 so I would assume he's thinking about sex and wants to "fuck" lol. I don't know about you but if my boyfriend who i haven't had sex with uses language like that then I would probably not, I mean he could've asked you in a nicer way and not make it sound he's after your vagina.

    • That's true. Lol thank you

  • The age gap is acceptable but you are still a little young. I know sex is an exciting new world but just make sure you're ready and your boyfriend isn't pushing you into it.

  • If you're not age of consent, you're too young.

  • sex is a huge responsibilty.. sex is not something great.. sex means having a kid.. and u r still a kid... i think 18 is proper age to have sex having sex before that is actually illegal

  • 18 is the youngest for me, 16 if I had to go really low.

  • is it legal? o. O

    • No. Good point. Thanks

    • A good point of view..

  • Legally you need to be 16 to have sex so it would be illegal, especially since he is older than you.

  • Yes, 14 is too young to have sex period--especially with a 17 year old! You two shouldn't even be dating If you ask me. If you were my daughter, i wouldn't allow it.

    • Yikes, wouldn't want to be your daughter then, I've done some pretty terrible things by your standards.

  • 14 is too early. Don't.

  • Age gap is acceptable in my opinion, the main thing is... do u fully understand how to properly use protection? If u need help with that u can talk to people here and you'll get good pointers.

    • Lol thanks. And I've asked around :D

  • The age gap is fine in most countries up to 3 years is around whats considered normal.

I still think 14 years of age is way too young. You haven't even fully grown out of puberty and neither psychologically developed your sexuality throughoutly. Being horny doesn't mean you have.

I would suggest you to wait. Especially if you have second thoughts already - which is why you are asking here - you should.

  • Well you are way to young to have sex. I'd say wait until you are at least 17, maybe 18.
But since you probably will do it, cause you're just a stupid little kid, who has no idea whats going on... force him to wear protection (condom) and make him get tested.
But if you don't even want to do that good luck with being a mommy at 14.

    • Umm ouch.

    • That's nothing compared to being a mother.

    • Jeez. Who said I was going to anyways? If you'd read the comments I posted on other people's answers I'm obviously not going to do it. There's no need to be harsh.

  • Whoa serious front2back mode here:
It's indecent liberties with a minor to do that. He could get in huge trouble. When I was 17 I dated a 15 y/o and I refused to have sex with her because she was too young. Also, if you're just having sex to "fuck" it's not a good idea. Sex should be about love/caring for each other in the most intimate way, not for the purpose of getting off. Yeah I would certainly wait, otherwise you might have some huge regrets when you're older.

  • If you're too young to deal with pregnancy and STIs, then keep your pants on.

    • Lol alright then. Thank you :)

  • well i mean 16 is legal here and if it is where you are then you're fucked

    • Lol literally

    • >mfw

    • What's that mean?

  • I've heard that in Japan it can be as young as 13, while here in Texas it's 18, not sure if you have to be older anywhere else, or can be younger anywhere else.

I would say it's according to the law where you live and ones own mental maturity.

There is always the ideal that if you can't raise a child, you shouldn't be having sex.

  • i´d say, before you´re even fertile is too young xD but there´s no shame in waiting until you´re at least 16 or so. no reason to rush it. think like "it´s still something to look foreward to" why would you want to do everything in life before you´re even 18 ?

    • Fertile is when you've started your period, right?

    • exactly.

    • I'm fertile lol I've been since I was 12. Periods come with puberty, and mine started when everyone else's did.

  • i lost mine at 13, never gave much thought to it

In your situation, as a 17 yr old, I would fell wrong trying to have sex with a 14 yr old for many reasons

    • Cool. But I don't know if he thinks this way lol, right now he's 16 and it'll be his 17th birthday when we do it. I don't know if he realizes the age gap or not though.

    • He should, and the fact he doesn't says a lot

  • Teens, and any time before marriage.

    • Well darn. Thank you

    • I also might feel marriage should wait until 21, but 18+ just might be ok as well. What's most important about marriage is planning it first. Getting to know each other enough to be absolutely certain they can be happy through being perfectly willing to do anything for one another.

  • 14 is actually illegal to have sex... i personally think you shouldn't not until your at least 18
