How long can sperm live inside me?

I'm trying to figure some things out. I just had an odd early period and now it's done and I still feel weird I'm still cramping, my boobs are still swollen and hurting and today every person I've gotten close to had smelled terrible so I went to the store and got some ovulation tests and pregnancy tests. I figured somethings gotta be happening and need to figure it out. I took one of each when I got home the pregnancy test was negative and there was a light line for ovulation so I'll take another either in a few hours or probly in the morning, the line has to be as dark or darker then the control line for it to be a positive test so the fact it was faint either means it came and is going or I'm about to ovulate and in a few hours or so the line will either be darker or lighter. The issue is we had sex on nov 29 and 30 and he came in me both times, I really think the chance for pregnancy is unlikely because I started a period on dec 1, I'm on birth control so I'm not supposed to have normal periods it's supposed to be withdraw bleeding from the lack of hormones. I'm just trying to figure out time lines of things because I missed a pill, so I'm curious how long sperm can live inside a woman. I really gotta see when I'm ovulating to get a correct time frame but I need to know like if I ovulated yesterday or the day before could his sperm still be inside me and have fertilized an egg? I believe the sperm fertilizes the egg in the Fallopian tubes so could it have gotten fertilized and then came down as my period was ending to implant? I only have until Sunday to figure stuff out if there's any chance I could have gotten pregnant I don't wanna start my pill again but if how I'm feeling is just ovulation than I know I'm not pregnant. I guess it all comes down to when i ovulated or if I'm about to ovulate and how long the sperm can live inside me, I'm working on the ovulation part just need to know the other

  • You egg is only viable for about a day, and that's being generous. The sperm can live anywhere from a day to three days. His sperm would have had to travel up your acidic vagina, past the cervix and it's mucous, all the way past your uterus (which would have been a shit show if you were about to slough your endometrium. I would definitely just take a good brand pregnancy test (once you're in the range for it to work-3 to 4 weeks) and go from there..

Most likely you are not pregnant if your egg was fertilized, it would have started its journey to the uterus after about 4 days. It would have burrowed in day 6-10. You wouldn't have had a safe haven for this ball of cells, you would have been still sloughing off the endometrium or rebuilding it but either way, there shouldn't have been enough of it to lead to implantation. You probably threw that egg out during your cycle, fertilized or not.

    • Yeah I'm thinking since my period just ended and since there was a faint line on the ovulation test that I'm about to ovulate which I'll know for sure either tonight or in the morning. i think the symptoms I'm feeling is from ovulation about to happen, it's sorta what it feels like just off its happening the same day my period is ending. I've been craving junk food, my chest sorta burning and itching, an acidy taste in my mouth and the cramps so more than likely just ovulation happening. My body is very sensitive and I can feel when it happens and it's so weird, get real hot and dizzy and can feel a weird sensation in my lower stomach.

    • No worries :) now you know to be safer next time.

  • I think mostly 2-3 days, but up to 5 days is also possible.

  • If we are talking about spermatozoids, I've read in several publications that around 48 hours. I believe that could be a maximum though.

I know also that if cum has gone through saliva (oral sex) fertility if the sperm can be reduced drastically, although there are some known cases in which that did not matter (Boris Becker).

  • 9 months ( the ass hole answer) Actually the female body can put sperm in to a stasis like state until the egg makes it to the uterus, once the egg leave the f tube and is in the uterus, the sperm will "wake up" and look for the egg.. this can be a few days..

  • Usually 24 hours or so.

  • Seventy two hours

  • About 3 days.

  • Don't know ovulation, but sperm can live 5 days inside someone.

    • accorring to the ovulation tests I ovulated today so I should be good after just ending my period today as well

    • Highly unlikely you're pregnant then (but weird things happen). Is one missed pill enough to risk pregnancy?
