Is having hpv a big deal?

I think I have it, but I am not sure. I got a wart in my finger a year ago. The wart finally disappeared and it hasn't returned in three months. I was surprised to learn that warts were a symptom of hpv. One of my brother had warts when he was a teenager but he wasn't sexually active. I did some research and found out that 80% of the population has it. So I stopped being worried. However, I noticed in dating sites that women mention that they have hpv. Im not sure if I have hpv because I never went to the doctor. Like I said my wart disappeared and it hasn't returned in 3 months. So, do I have to tell women I might have hpv.

  • Let's look at the facts of HPV, shall we?
There are 100 strains, and 60 of them cause warts on the hands and feet (and occasionally other limbs). The remaining 40 are sexually transmitted. Not all of these strains are harmful, but those that are are usually VERY harmful. The highest risk strains can be responsible for cervical cancer.
HPV can also cause genital warts, however, 90% of genital warts are caused by low risk strains of HPV.
You have a wart on your finger, so it is VERY unlikely that you have a sexually transmitted or high risk strain of HPV. Most people who notify others of their infection have a sexually transmitted strain.

  • HPV is dangerous for women because it can lead to cervical cancer. So yes, I would say it's a pretty big deal. I would suggest heading to your doctor as soon as possible to see if they are able to screen your for it, or give you an idea of whether or not your symptoms could have been a sign of it. I would recommend not having sex until you figure this out, or at the very least using condoms. It would be best to let your partners know that you're concerned that you may have HPV. Good on you for paying such close attention to this.

  • I don't know OP is cancer a big deal?

But yeah. You definitely need to go to the doctor and get screened. Plus, you should be getting regular STD screenings if you're sexually active.

  • If you don't know then don't say anything. It's best to just see a doctor for a check up

  • Go to the doctor and get tested you need medical information

  • No, everyone has that.

  • there's so many types of HPV. Warts are not a big deal and aren't the same as genital warts (a big deal but still treatable) and thats not the same kind that gives people cancer (I think). If you're really worried, just see a Dr.
