If I can feel my IUD with my fingers, will he be able to feel it too?

My IUD is a little over two months old and I don't want the strings to poke his penis while we're having sex, cause he's slightly bigger than average, I have a deeper than average vagina and we like to get rough during intercourse. I don't know if, being that he's circumcised, that maybe he might not feel the strings? Should I just remove it?

  • No. Give it a try - slowly! The thing to check is which way the points of the strings poke.

When I first had intercourse with my partner (the day she got her IUD ;p ) we got going fairly fast and found out the hard way I CAN feel the strings... and the points on those motherf*******s hurt! We eventually learned that if the strings were tucked away behind the cervix, it was okay. I could still sometimes feel the strings, but only the side of them, not the sharp point.

So, give it a try, but be slow and careful about it. And better yet, feel around for the ends before you try.

  • I've had sex with two different women with IUDs. One of them got the IUD while we were dating, so I had some comparison of what it was like with and without. In certain positions, and at certain angles, I could feel the strings, but it wasn't a big deal at all. It didn't affect the overall feeling, it was just something that was occasionally noticeable in a completely neutral way. The knowledge that we were using a form of birth control that was highly effective and not subject to human error made the sex much more enjoyable. It will be fine, I assure you.

  • He WILL NOT feel the strings. The strings are thinner than regular monofilament fishing line. Your gynecologist should have shown you what the strings look like so that your imagination doesn't run wild. NO you shouldn't have your IUD removed. I have been using Mirena for almost 8 years and my husband has never felt anything.

    • When I feel the strings they still feel hard, and the ends are kinda pokey. I have the Paraguard, are the stings any different from the Mirena?

    • Yeah I think it depends on if he reaches the cervix.

    • No, just brand names. Chill, my ex always hit my cervix and my IUD is still in place.

  • I've had one for two years and the string has curved and now rests against my vagina. Keep your IUD, it's a good form of contraception that requires no maintenance/tweaking the whole time you have it.

You have nothing to worry about. I had it while with a rough ex and he never felt it.

  • Ask him the question during or after. Some guys have enough reach for it to be a problem and some won't. You'll find some gynecologists are adamant about such a thing being impossible though.

  • Some of us can surely feel it but it doesn't really even bother me when i used to see this one lady who had one implanted. Ask him because im sure he is aware.
