My boyfriend finishes in my mouth or on my face/body somewhat often and I've never had a bad experience with that in terms of taste/smell. Diet is definitely a huge influence.
If your boyfriend eats a lot of processed foods, a lot of coffee/alcohol, smokes, or even eats bitter tasting foods such as Asparagus, his cum will understandably have an off-putting smell.

You should try giving him a heads up. Maybe suggest that you two both eat more fruits to improve your guys' taste for each other so that he doesn't take any personal offense from the get-go.

Yes. It's diet. Do a little research. Have him switch it up. For example, eggs make it more salty, carrots make it more sweet. Water is also important role.
