Are there any safe ways how to make yourself sterile?

I am adamant of not wanting kids. I'm terrified of pregnancy and childbirth. I am not very good when it comes to kids. Also, sex is a bit inevitable when it comes to a relationship so I don't want an unplanned pregnancy. I know there is birth control but they work 99.9 percent and that one percent could fail you and boom! Pregnant. I want something that works 101 percent and I am willing to get my ovaries or uterus removed surgically but I don't have the money to do so unfortunately.

  • Tubal litigation. It's hard to find someone who will perform it on someone so young but the possibility is there. It's not like a hysterectomy so you won't have to deal with your hormones becoming out of whack or having to take estrogen.

Before doing that I do recommend getting an IUD. Yes there is that 0.1% chance of getting pregnant but it's way more effective than most other birth controls and the copper one doesn't have any hormones that will affect your body while you are still developing. It's also possible to get it for free while the ACA is still in place (assuming you are in the US).

    • What exactly is that? I've heard of it but never truly understood it.

    • It's a surgery to seal off the Fallopian tubes so that eggs can't make it to the uterus. It's basically the female version of a vasectomy.

    • That sounds painful Dx

  • The only 100% way is surgery but NO doctor in is right mind would do it to you because you're way too young.
You should add condoms to your birth control or try an IUD.
The thing is? I've knows so many girl friends who thought like you at 18 who changed their mind.
You might not change your mind, ever but for that reason along you won't be allowed to get surgery.

    • No, I am adamant about this. My motherly affection only pertains to animals, but with a human baby? I feel nothing but cold indifference. I fear pregnancy and I fear childbirth. Besides, I would not want to bring a child into this world. Also, I'm many things, but I'm not a mother. I'd be a kickass Auntie, but I would not be a kickass Mum.

    • I can't fully understand you because... I know I want to be a mum but I do know that some women feel like this and that never change. The thing is, no matter what you feel like, I really don't see a doctor doing this surgery to a 18 years old woman. Though, you should really consider an IUD

  • I don't think that it's a good idea, you're too young and you can regret it, try not to look for something permanent, try an IUD it's effective and reversible.

  • There are a few things but they're risky. There's thing you can insert in your vagina that requires a doctors aid. There's special lube along with condoms that'll help. But everything has a risk to it

    • Thank you!

  • 1. Get an IUD
    2. Get your ovaries clipped. But it's not free:

Having them removed would give you an early menopause.

  • Use an IUD or the ring in combination with condoms and if you do fall pregnant get an abortion.

  • Nothing comes to mind other than surgery

  • Perhaps a bit of therapy would help you avoid a permanent solution to what may prove a temporary problem.

    • This^^

  • Surgery is the way to go. Find a job, save up, have the surgery.

  • Anal. Not possible to get pregnant from and free. All you need is to make sure your ass is clean and whola all sex with no babies.

    • The vast majority of women can't orgasm from anal sex.

    • @Goldenn-Rose No one ever mentioned orgasm. I reread the OP question and found no traces of "orgasm" let's also face the fact the majority of woman can't orgasm to begin with, not with regular sex that is.

    • So why would she want to have sex then? And what's this about the majority of women not being able to orgasm? 😳

  • there's *plenty* of birth control that's semi permanent, don't make such a permanent decision when you're so young

  • Sterile

I guess jump in a pool of rubbing alcohol. Wear goggles though. Or jump in hydrogen peroxide, easier on the skin

  • You too serious.

  • Tubal ligation. In and out day surgery. Cheap. 100 percent effective. No side effects.

  • Just go to the doctor's or to the hospital. A bit of cheeky tubal ligation, and you're sorted :)

  • I don't think so.

  • If kung fu panda has taught me anything it's that "one often meets his destiny on the road he takes to avoid it".

I don't think you should make such a drastic and permanent change like this to your body, especially at this age. You may think you're adamant about this now but you don't know what the future holds. I would recommend a temporary solution such as such as a contraceptive implant, an IUS/IUD aka the coil which can last up to 10 years.

    Just take that into consideration.

  • I would suggest not doing that just yet, 18 years is barely a quarter of your life, you change people change. Therapy may help

  • i dont think so that there is any safe way to get sterile other than to concern this with a doctor.

  • get your tubes tied

  • Yea sex can be scary

    • Very scary.
