Is it true that scented body washes cause yeast infections? If so, what is best to clean yourself with down there?

My friend told me that she just "washes" it with warm water and that's it. I think that's disgusting tbh. But, she says its because soap causes infections and stuff. I use olay body wash down there and i get itchy whenever i'm done washing so , i'm not sure if maybe that's the cause of it like does scented body wash really cause infections? I don't know. I thought infections were causes by lack of hygiene. I'm just curious as to what you ladies out there wash your area with and what you think about using just warm water..

  • Too much soap is never good because it destroys the pH of the skin. Warm water is indeed the best cleaning agent. The only thing a soap does is lowering the surface tension so the water flows better. If you use a soap, only use a little and a soft soap with neutral pH.

  • your friend is right! stay away from scented products when it comes to down there because most allergic reactions might come from fragrances.. just use a very gentle soap of just warm water

    • thanks for MH

  • Just use wash specifically for down there or regular body wash but make sure it doesn't go "inside".

  • I use a plain bar soap like ivory or dove. I've had the same issues with body wash, your cookie is just too sensitive for all the chemicals in body wash.

  • Yeast Infections are caused by a change in your PH balance, so anything from drinking too much soda, to using a scented soap can effect that. Your best bet is to get a feminine wash that's made specifically for the genitals such as Summer's Eve, and make sure you are only washing the outside, you should NEVER put any soap inside your actual vagina!

  • vagisil

  • Scented body washes do have a higher chance of causing yeast infections. If you don't want to do the good thing for your body and only use warm water, you can try baby soap. It's extremely gentle on the skin.

  • There are special products with low ph level used for feminine hygiene. You feel clean after using them without feeling irritated down there. You should give Summer's Eve a try or a more natural brand like Yoko.

    • Ok thanks

  • i use body soap but rinse it right away and i don't put it inside

  • I also heard recently how girls wash it with just warm water... I am scared to do that.
I know you can get a soap that is made for that. I used to by it and it was great. I just can't get it in my town anymore.

  • I wash my vagina with just water too because your vagina is self cleaning, you don't need to add any chemicals down there. The vagina is in the inside so but I use mild soap for the creases. Never had a yeast or bv or a horrible odor.

    • What soap do you use for the outside part?

    • Just the bikini line and the pubic bone area and that's it. You need any vagina soap because those will strip the good bacteria. You just need warm water if you have a shower heard that's all you need. And diet plays a role too. try not to eat a lot of sugary foods and drink plenty of water. Eat more plant based foods.(fruits and veggies)
