Cold sore is oral herpes , You have to get tested by your Dr. It sounds like to me you have a canker sore which is caused from acidic foods and drinks. Go buy some oral gel.

Do you know for sure you have HV1? If you do and it is a herpes cold sore, if you have a exposed cold sore, that is when you are most likely to spread it. You have to avoid kissing when you are having a break out. But get tested and find out for sure that is what you have...
PS- Avoid oral sex in that time as well. Your partner could develop genital herpes.
