  • Once your period starts, chemicals called prostaglandins are released, which are important in that they cause the uterus to contract and get rid of the uterine lining that you're supposed to shed on a monthly basis. On the flipside, though, prostaglandins in excess can lead to diarrhea by extending their effect of encouraging contractions to the digestive system.

In otehr words, if you're one of those girls who get diarrhea/a really upset stomach during the few days preceding the start of your period, and maybe day 1+2 where you're actually bleeding, your prostaglandin levels are probably just higher than usual. Which isn't a bad thing in terms of health, thankfully.

(As for how to treat it.. well, I've personally never been afflicted by such issues all that much but on the odd time that I am, I find that drinking a lot of water, ideally warm water like chamomile tea or something, avoiding foods that would be irritating to the stomach like spicy/really bitter foods including black coffee, help a bit. In addition to Midol and, believe it or not, working out.)

  • I actually think I might know the scientific answer to this lol. So the uterus and and the colon are both lined with smooth muscle. Some female hormones are responsible for the contraction of smooth muscle to help with delivery (which is why some women end up pooping when giving birth). I would guess that these muscles also help with getting rid of the lining which accounts for cramping. So since the hormones that are causing the smooth muscle to contract are high, your colon is also contracting.

  • probably the muscles used to push out the egg are affecting muscles used to push out poop and gass. like how sex makes you have to pee bc it pushes against the bladder. cramping im sure stimulates the large intestine and the sphincter muscles.

  • This is supposed to be due to the proximity of the uterus to the colon, meaning that when the lining of the uterus thickens it can compress the colon somewhat and then as the lining diminishes it releases that pressure, thus interfering with bowel movements. The other element is the hormone, progesterone, which peaks during your period.

This is all second hand information, I'm not a doctor, lol. It just seems to be a common scenario and you are by no means unique with this. It perhaps just isn't talked about much.

  • Serves you right for being a woman! Lol just kidding, my ex explained the "cunt punt" as she called it as a total cleansing.

She found a solution though ask her

  • Very common for females to get diarrhea or gas symptoms while
on their period , i knew plenty of females had the same exact problems.

  • LOL! That's hilarious and disgusting all at the same time

  • OMG. Sit on my face.

  • Cramping stimulates the area and makes you fart and shit more. It’s kind of like how you have to throw up and fart after you get hit in the vagina right after you fall to the ground.

  • take me inside, then you won fart :P :D

    • wont*
