Why do girls find it so embarrassing if you can see their nipples through their shirt?

I mean I guess I kinda get it but most guys like it I think. I do anyways. I don't mean for this question to offend anyone or portray and type of degrading attitude to women. Just a simple question from a simple guy. Please don't be mad that I asked if this is a touchy subject. (I feel I have to put this disclaimer on all questions now given the amount of touchy people on this site.)

That's just our society.

Some societies you can show the whole breast cause it isn't sexual, it's just for feeding babies. Other societies you can't show anything, not even cleavage. But in ours you can show cleavage but not nipple or areole.

Look at what happens to women that breastfeed in public. They get fined in some places. It's all because her nipple is showing even if she is just feeding her baby.

So we get the message it's sort of OK to show some breast, just not all of it. We get the message cleavage is sexy but nipples are slutty.

It's the same reason we don't walk around topless. It is traditional in our society for women to cover their chests, especially their nipples, and we (as a society) make a big deal when they aren't covered. Think of Janet Jackson at the superbowl.

I don't understand why we give nipples the same level of privacy as a vagina or penis, but we do, probably because ours, rather than yours, lactate when breastfeeding a child. So, when you can see them through the shirt, that's as bad as being able to see them totally.

I don't find it embarrassing, it's not like you don't know they're there.  I mean I'm usually wearing a bra anyway so I generally don't worry about it but if I'm around the house just wearing a tank top and I need to run out really quick like to the bank or the supermarket I'm not gonna put a bra on just to go out for 15 minutes (my boobs are really small so if I'm wearing a tank top I don't need a bra and if I'm just hanging around the house I don't put one on).  I never even really gave it a second thought.

Are you really that daft man? The simple answer is that you're seeing something you probably shouldn't. The other reason is that some girls think it's makes them seem slutty. Whether they ARE slutty or not is a different matter, but the fact is they're scared of what other people might think or say. They don't want people to assume they're some kinda whore.

I find it quite embarrassing but it is something I have learned to live with since mine are so perky you can see them through my bra and shirt unless it is a seriously padded bra, which I don't need being a D cup.  I feel exposed. In our society it is a private part so I feel like I am showing the world  something that should be hidden from most.  And also there are a lot of men out there that I really don't want trying to picture what my boobs look like.

I don't like to walk around without a bra on because it just feels uncomfortable, and I don't like the look or feeling they have without one.  x_x

I'm really not sure why I get so embarrassed about this, but I think maybe it's  because usually our nipples don't show? And a lot of times when they do, some people see it as intentional or slutty- like if the girl isn't wearing a bra or her shirt reveals too much. So maybe since it's kind of considered a negative thing to be aware of them, we get embarrassed when they show?
