Hickies on the neck seem a bit cliche and classless in my opinion. I've gotten it before and I told my mom I ran into a wall...of course she didn't believe me but my boyfriend's(at the time) mom at the time did...somehow.
It's like shining high beams on the face that you're sexually active, and sometimes you don't want that lol. I think to make it more fun you could try the inside of the thigh, your boobs, some part of your arm possibly? Just basically find a spot and start sucking. Since it might be a little painful, use yur hands to distract him. Trail them up and down his body or play with him in some way to turn him on even more. If he likes nails, run your nails down his stomach and chest to make it an even more sexy experience.
I've gotten a hickey on my nipples before and liked it. Completely unintentional but the whole moment itself was pretty intense and sensual since we couldn't have sex at the time. Just know if you do do that, they will be extremely tender afterwards and might be hard for hours after too.
In visible areas:
-Trashy.It shows you've had sex,there's absolutely no need to advertise that,regardless of how long you've been going out.
-Insecurity.People do that to show that the person is "taken" and not single/I don't care how long people have been going out or whether it was a one night stand,there is no need to leave a nasty mark on someones neck,it only shows that you feel the need to show everyone she is taken and unapproachable(by guys)
-Immaturity.Only teenagers do that to "mark their territory" so when someone sees it they know they are taken.
Non visible areas:
-Whatever,can't see,I'm not looking.
I LOVE getting hickeys. I don't see them as slag tags because I get them from my boyfriend who I've been with for 6 and a half months now. He's given me 2, One FAT one on my neck and one on my boob. I find it such a turn on to be honest! And also I've given him three cause it turns him on too, he's had one on his back, neck and like on his pubic area :D
I don't like visible hickies like on the neck that everyone can see. To me it looks a little trashy. But body hickies are alright. If your giving a hickey and it is barely visible then you aren't sucking hard enough or long enough. The next time you try just latch on and suck away and it will definitely be visible.

I don't know personally that was a turn off, and vise versa I never felt the need to mark my territory :), id rather have sensual kissing or licking on my neck without the marks, :) !
I love the act of actually receiving a hicky (i.e. having my neck sucked on/bit), but I think visible hickeys look trashy.
