Girls, does your hymen matters to you that much?

I'm talking about your hymen, not your virginity.
Hymen doesn't matter to me that much tbh, i couldn't care less. The only reason why i have never had sex with anyone is because i was waiting to have cervical cancer vaccine injection. The only reason that it is somehow important to me is because it protects your body from bacteria.
But my mom just freaked out and bans me to use tampon because she's afraid that it will break my hymen, and she cares about it not because of biological reasons, it's because of her belief. How can i talk her out of this? And girls, does hymen important to you? (hymen and virginity is 2 completely different things)

  • hymen and virginity are 2 different things, but you will find that most people either dont care, dont read, dont comprehend, and they have always outnumbered the humble or the educated in ratios i dont want to depress you with. Ever notice how the special kids are smiling all the time? they aren't burdened with the more you learn the less you know, and that = happy. If your mom thinks that at any point she can control you or what you do, she may have had children for the wrong reason, many women will say "I want a child" but when have you known someone who is in a position of financial stability, happily married, and it just seemed that was the next logical step, having children. Go get a tattoo of a heart with mom written across it, if you put it in the right place, it will say wow and look like a spade when you turn over, then ask mom if she still feels like you aren't your own human,

  • Hymen is important only if girls are virgin. having intact hymen proves that the girl is a virgin. But all virgins don't have intact hymen. Girls who do exercise and cycling lose their hymen due to breakage. And there are girls whose hymen can completely cover their opening in the vagina , preventing period blood to flow out. At such times they need surgical opening in the hymen.

    • The hymen cannot be used as a virginity detector at all. It simply does not work that way.

  • Our hymen does not protect us from bacteria. It is not a barrier (although so many people seem to think it is). Unfortunately is seems your mom may not quite understand about the hymen herself. It is your vagina and your hymen and your choice whether you decide to insert a tampon through it, or your fingers, a toy, or a boy...

    All our hymens are different, some more evident than others, some more flexible, others less so, others non existent. As lots of people have said even exercise and movement and our own fingers can change the hymen.

    I thoroughly recommend tampon use as it is so much more comfortable. It is time to let mom know that you are now in control of your body and you love her dearly for her concern/thoughts, but as a normal modern independent girl you would prefer her support, not her criticism.

  • A hymen is NOTHING! People don't die of bacterias and anything after they lose their virginity. It is important in infancy when girls wear diapers and so on to protect vagina from poop or smth else but really, if you have some medical condition why you need to use tampon, just use that tampon! If not, well, don't break it just because of a tampon, it may also be a bit painful, so, why? But in general, as you yourself know, a hymen doesn't mean virginity and neither does blood, I never bled. If a guy's not gonna be with you because of a damn hymen, dump that idiot!

    About your mom beliefs, they don't have to be yours. Also, I don't think people should value hymens that much, since hymens can be lost accidentally in non sexual activities.

  • I'm sorry but neither the hymen nor virginity really matters in the grand scheme of things. The hymen isn't beneficial to a girl. It can stretch, tear, etc from very normal activities too. And virginity is made up and people use it to make girls feel bad about being sexual. I'm not advocating going out and sleeping with everyone, but having sex is nothing to be ashamed of.

  • I think it's a generational thing. You girls are now talking about it like "it's a social construct" blah blah blah. For us back in the early 2000's, hymen and virginity coincided with each other. It was a big deal. And for me it remained a huge deal considering I lost my virginity in 2014, where my hymen did tear and did cause me to bleed. But honestly, a tampon is not going to break it. I shoved vibrators up there and it didn't break.
