How do I talk to my boyfriend about my period?

my boyfriend doesn't understand that girls don't all wear tampons. I wear pads because I don't like tampons. well my boyfriend has a thing for my butt, I don't know he says he likes it but I won't let him mess with me when I'm on my period because I'm paranoid that he will feel the pad and freak. well I've talked to him about it a little bit and now he wants to see one. I'm embarrassed about telling him about it at all, so how do I show him what a pad is and where it goes, if I can't even hardly talk to him about it in general. he says that if we are going to live together one day he will have to get used to this stuff so he wants to know about it now instead of later. this is embarrassing! how do I do it? it's sad ill be 18 very soon and I can't tell my boyfriend about this.

First of all, don't be embarrassed. It sounds as though you have a caring understanding boyfriend.

If you're really too embarrassed I'm sure there's plenty of videos on youtube for commercials and what not. Might save you some of the sting.

I'm sure he's seen them before, after all there's whole aisles of the things in the supermarket. Its not like he has to see an used one.

If its too much why not just leave a pad in your knickers where he'll see it and then at least he'll get some idea.

Knickers is a funner word but I understand. I'm going to show him a unused one. my best friend told me to hand him a clean one and tell him to have fun and explore. I got nervous just thinking about it. lol.

Yes that sounds like a good idea. I don't know if they sell them in America but perhaps give him one of the freshelle ones (you know the ones that come with the little wipe in them) and let him have a looky with it. There are some that come with pretty wrappers, so just let him do his own thing I guess!

Don't be embarrassed. He just doesn't know about it because he's a guy lol. He's not gonna care. I mean they have those commercials all over the TV. If he's not nice to you about it then he sucks. But it doesn't sound like he has a problem with it. Or tell him to look it up on google. haha

Because he told me I'm the first girl he's met that actually uses a pad and not a tampon. that's why its embarrassing.

It's a very big deal for a girl. that sort of stuff is really personal to us! i get paranoid that people can see my pad through my underwear AND jeans/skirt! sit him down and talk to him. in an environment you're most comfortable in! do it in your own time, don't rush yourself! and breath! :P when you're nervous, you forget to! lol
