I think if you were to go hairless you may want to look into a more permanent method of doing so. Shaving just means it will come back itchier for you, as well as come out more coarse and prickly for them. Although I'm sure there are a lot of girls that prefer you didn't have a hairy ass, I find that most girls won't fault you on it. My ass is kinda hairy, but still I find that I never had too many lady troubles because if it. It's not necessarily a total deal breaker.
Furthermore, Christopher Titus once said "stop trying to be cooler than you are. Women wish to god you were cooler than you are, but you're not, and when you try to look cooler you just end up looking like an ass." I am pretty sure I messed up how he said that, but still the point holds up. I say just be who you are and let them accept you for what you are, hairy ass and all. Still if feel you absolutely must lose your body hair I suggest looking into more permanent removal processes. They will cost more, but at least you won't end up feeling like a porcupine. You could try laser removal, maybe electrology (also referred to as electrolysis). Other than that you could try wax, but that's still significantly less permanent.
Either way I still say, stop worrying, and let it be. Either way I still provided you with options to think about.
Shaving in that particular place is such an "iffy" proposition I've devised an alternate, and much more effective, method. Once every two weeks I take off my pants, tie a rope around the bumper of my buddy's car, and have him drag me 1/4 mile down the freshly-paved road in front of my house. Works like a charm, though I have to admit it smarts a litlle.

My ex used to trim the hairs on his bum. and he was so self conscious about his bum that he wouldn't let me touch it :(. I think hair I fine. Its better then spiky regrowth. But if your that keen, I suggest waxing, its a more permanant thing that you won't have to keep shaving every couple of days.
