I have feelings for my sex friend. How do I find out if he likes me or not?

Me and this guy have been sex friends for a number of years...without the friends part really. Now I have feelings for him and I can't get over it. I don't understand why he never liked me but still wanted to have sex with me. When we went out we would hold hands, kiss etc. but it seem like he never wanted a relationship and I had to initiate everything. When I was around him I almost always said or did the wrong thing and its killing me that I made so many mistakes with him because I really still like him. We haven't spoken for 2 years after he told me he had a girlfriend(this is after repeatedly telling me he didn't want a relationship). He never tried to contact me during those 2 years either. I think about him so much that I recently messaged him on facebook. He replied but the conversation was really abrupt. How do I get him out of my mind.
