[Period Question] Is it gross to guys?

I'm pretty sure guys rarely think of stuff like periods, but my friend told me that guys don't like girls that use pads because it's gross. Is that true? If you had to get your girl something for her period without asking which one she prefers would you choose pads or tampons for her? I want to know which is the lesser of two evils. Or do you not care either way?

  • Ok this is probably going to be really sexist, but here goes.

A guy doesn't understand periods. At all. We don't get them, we don't understand them, our parents don't sit us down to discuss them. It's "secret womens business". Furthermore, if we tried to discuss it we'd probably get attacked for not knowing about it. As such, we like to stear real clear of it.

That, generally, includes buying pads/tampons. We don't want to have to know about flow rates and heavy vs light or winged for leakage. It's all too much information. But, with all that in mind, I'd buy tampons. For one very very bizarre reason. I use them too.

My nose got badly broken in a rugby game about 6 years ago and it occasionally bleeds. When it does, I've found the easiest method for dealing with it (assuming I'm not in public) is to stick a tampon up my nose. I mean, after all, it is what it's designed for (sort of).

Of course, if you say to the checkout chic you're buying tampons for yourself you get really, REALLY, weird looks.

    • Haha that reminded me of the film 'she's the man' when she (pretending to b a guy) put one up her nose when her roommate found them in her boot - "it absorbs right up" lmao

    • Haha, that's actually really common. so, question - if you think guys would handle them better if they UNDERSTOOD them, rather than talk to her about it, wouldn't you want to research it in a scientific matter so it wouldn't gross you out more? Or do you think if you understood even the mechanics behind it, you would be even more grossed out. And, finally, do you think guys are less wigged by the monthlies after they become fathers?

    • Well see, myself personally I know probably a little more then the average man about all the specs, mostly because of being a male nurse. Not that we're taught that in university, but because when I was at uni, all my friends were females. But, as for menstration, for guys it's pretty much handled as a "not our problem". I remember (and I'm Aussie) doing sex ed classes that were split into males and females. We got talks about wet dreams and spontaneous stiffys. I'm guessing girls got periods.

  • I would not buy her tampons or pads without first asking her preference. I once dated a girl that claimed she couldn't use tampons because of some health/medical reason.

I wouldn't want to offend my girl by buying her the wrong thing.

If you're willing to ditch a girl just because of her preference of tampons or pads, you've got issues.

  • Wait a minute... who cares? Any guy who can't deal with periods obviously cannot deal with women. And we call these individuals boys, not men. Periods are not gross or taboo or icky or embarrassing or wrong. They are natural and part of being a female. I'm not going to walk into a room and proudly state "BLEEDING!" but I'm not going to be abashed about it either. If he can't handle periods, how the hell is he ever going to handle being a father one day and witnessing childbirth? You can't have double standards with the p*ssy! Either love it for all its glory, or be gone little man. That's my two cents.

    • Well said :)

  • I don't think many are grossed out about periods. Although, I dated a guy once who was, he couldn't even talk about it without nearly dry heaving. And I remember I stayed at his house one weekend, and to my luck :/, I got my period. He broke up with me when I got home. lol

Anyways, most NORMAL guys won't be grossed out. I prefer using tampons and I just feel as though theyre more hygienic. Pads move around, make you get sweaty, and you can always tell when a girl uses pads cause they tend to smell a little when your near them. But as long as you change them frequently, it shouldn't matter.

    • Omg. What was his problem? I hope I never encounter a guy like that. I only use pads and I never smell (I take extra precautions so that never happens)

  • i've never met a guy who cared at all. all they seem to care about is that they're nice to me incase I might have PMS so I won't be upset with them haha. luckily, all that happens to me is I get tired and starving and wanna lay around and eat donuts all day lolol.

    • Haha that hillarious :D

    • That is so my girlfriend. Except I stopped being extra nice to her during them because being sent to fetch more food every five minutes a few days every month got annoying. lol.

  • Periods are gross to guys, period. As for tampons and pads, they don't have to wear them, therefore I highly doubt their opinion on this matter is warranted. Do whichever works best for you, you have the right to your own personal preferences on this.

  • I'm not grossed out at all by girl's bodily functions and I don't care which one she uses.

  • well, iv never met a guy that cared, but I personally think pads are grosser but I prefure to wear them for now

  • I would go with tampons...

  • The only time I am turned off by a womans natural monthly cycle is if she is not clean about it. Such as using feminine odor control if needed, or not properly disposing of the pads or tampons.

  • no its not gross at all to me ... always curious about it

  • I don't care about pads or tampons but I am one of the few guys who likes mentrual blood - going down on a girl during her period is my favorite time.

    • Yuck

    • O.O and you don't get sick or anything?

  • Tampons of course. They look neater than pads. And sometimes I am allowed to put them in, after which I am treated to a mind blowing blow job.

  • I know one dude named Larry69 really loves periods.
