Why do girls hide it?
Having her period is nothing a girl should be ashamed about.
I've known a few girls who simply said 'Sorry, PMS' when they got aggressive once a month. Life with them was so much simpler than with the girls where a guy has to guess why she suddenly bites your nose off.
Sometimes a guy thinks that PMS might be the reason but most of the time the guy stays puzzled, asking himself what he did wrong. (specially a guy who doesn't have two sisters at home, of course)
As I grew older I started paying attention to it.
With one co worker I was puzzled for months, then got the clue, put a tiny sign on my agenda, and bulls eye! 28 days later, she did 'bite' again. From that moment our working relationship on the job moved from barely acceptable to excellent: I could adjust my own behaviour.
I must say that my wife rarely shows/showed that behaviour.
My mother didn't even speak about it and I never had a sister.
I also met women who were quite open about it.
Menstruation is a 100% normal fact of life that any guy can understand and it usually doesn't set him thinking about sex. If anything, I'd rather be gentle and understanding then or simply forget it within the hour.
Some girls definitely start to act like they are on some kind of weirdness drug, and that is a hormone doing that and it is detectable to people who do not have it racing through them... much like a drug you can tell when someone is acting different. Also when the tampon box goes from half full to empty it usually is a good sign.
Women also can naturally synchonize their periods by living together. When females reside in the same household their pheromones are picked up by the other females and the periods start to happen in unison over time. It is possible that men can detect this pheromone on a sexual level perhaps but pheromones are odorless so that is unlikely the case. This period synch happens on a subconscious level... (probably noticed when the tampon box goes empty... or missing just when you need it!)
my best friends always knew when I'm on my period. and I somtimes knew when it was their time.
girls act different on their period. usually a lot more sensitive to stuff you say, take things personally and are quite bitchy and bossy.
Then my girlfriend is ALWAYS on her period. =P

but even when they're not a brat about it, I can sometimes tell. The timing of a period tends to be fairly regular in most women, so it's possible to notice a few traits. their complexion can change (flushing, acne), their food/drink preferences can change, and so on.
just because we don't talk about this kind of stuff with women doesn't mean we don't notice it ;)
Well, from the frequency of her using the bathroom, I do make a guess.
I mean, who goes to the bathroom every 2 hours?
Plus, sometimes there's a very faint smell of blood, though I rarely smell that.
ehmm I def go to the bathroom every two hours, even if I'm not on my period. But that was kinda what I meant anyways, I meant regarding her behaviour
erm, nope. girls who drink coffe go to the bathroom at LEAST every 2 hours lol

Women do act differently. I pick up on it and get all turned on. Maybe it's her copulance but it's something.
Sometimes when a girl is really bitchy or emotional I can think of the reason why, but not all the time.
