Questions about waxing for the first time... Lady bits too?

I'm going to go for my first wax soon... Planning on definitely: underarms and legs maybe: bikini/g-string/brazilian Is there anything I should do before the wax to prepare my skin to make it better/easier? (Legs and underarms) Would you recommend a full leg wax or a 3/4 leg wax? Any idea how long the wax will last if I've got tough darkish hairs? How painful is it? Should I trim the hairs or anything? How long/short must they be? Thinking about have my lady bits done too... what's the difference between a bikini, g-string and Brazilian wax? How painful are they? And here... too... how long/short should the hairs be? Is there anything important I should know about anything to do with waxing? Can I take some painkillers beforehand? If yes, how far ahead? The website says I can ask for hot wax at extra cost. What is the difference and why is it better or worse?

  • I've been getting brazillians for a while now. I haven't personally gotten my underarms or legs done, but I imagine I have a good idea about them.

For preperation beforehand, it helps if you've showered recently before you go to the salon. This ensures your skin and hair is softer and it removes any dry/dead skin before the wax does.

Waxing varies in how long it will last. It depends on how quickly your hair grows and if you've waxed before. The first time you wax will last the least amount of time. The more you wax, the longer it lasts. Generally it will last approximately 3-4 weeks before you have to go again.

You're legs and underarms won't be that painful, because they are more accustomed to the elements i.e. sunshine, wind, tables. etc. The first time will be more painful because you don't know what to expect. It's really more of a shock than an actual pain. I like to think of it as a slap to the face. A slap isn't really painful, but the sheer shock of it is alarming.

Technically the hairs can't be too long, but in all honestly if they are past .5 inch it will be more painful. Hairs can be too short though. If they are too short, the wax won't be able to grab onto them. So the best length to have your hair for waxing is somewhere between .25 and .5 inches. It can be a bit longer though too.

The difference between those are simple. A bikini does just the sides. It's supposed to remove only the hair that will be seen when wearing a bikini. So it mainly sticks to the hairs on the thighs up to the pubic bone and into that crevice. A g-string will take it in farther because generally g-strings don't follow that joint out to the hips. Rather they are tight and narrow, so the waxing will go farther in. A brazillian can be one of three things. This is you're personal choice. It can be a landing strip, with a line down the center. It can include waxing around the anus. It can be a full brazillian, meaning everything is hairless.

Waxing down there is a bit more sensitive. However, slap to the face still applies. The most painful part is right down the pubic bone which if ignored leaves the landing strip. After the first time, its really not that bad. And the first time doesn't have to be bad at all.

You can take painkillers beforehand. If you do, take 2 aspirin approximately 30 minutes beforehand. This is less for the pain, and more to keep any swelling down. Which will help with sensitivity afterwards.

I've never been to a salon which differeniated between waxes and costs. You can probably ask that salon what makes it special and decide if you want that.

    Hope that helps.

  • Are you doing it yourself? if yes I'd recommend sugar wax, its easy and cheap than the stuff you can buy. Also don't go for brazillian then.

It doesn't really hurt that much on your underarms and legs, quite a bit more on your thighs and if you're doing it for the first time it hurts like hell on your private parts. So don't do it unless you got some expierence or let it done.

If you're going to a salon, you don't need to prepare at all. I

I don't think on your body, the hair can be too long, but it def can be too short. It shouldn't be a problem on your underarms, but on your legs/bikini zone you would need to let it grow for about 4-7 days (depending on how fast yours grows)

Yu could take painkillers, but I wouldn't. Be careful with medication don't take too much it's no good. Also I doubt the stuff you get without persription will help much. You could use some voltaren gel beforehand, not sure how effective it is tho.

Brazilian is all gone, Bikini is only the hair you don't see when you wear a bikini is removed and I'd guess g-string is somewhere in the middle.

    • I'm getting it done at a salon. Thanks for your advice :)
