What advice, if any or remedies would you have for menstrual pain? This question is preferably for the ladies.

Hi, this is not too be unladylike, crude, explicit, gross, or offensive to anyone in any way possible. I vow that my intentions are pure and legit, not to mention I do intend on seeing a doctor, and seeking birth control, but I need help until then. I'm almost 21, a virgin, and since getting my period at twelve, I have always had a regular, virtually painless period. I'm still regular, light, lasting four days, and dealing with the occasional fatigue, and the excessive using the bathroom. However, this month, in addition to that, I received a sudden aggressive attack of pain: unbearable cramps, light headed, excruciating back and neck pain, aching joints, and knees. I was barely able to walk or move or work-out; pretty much bed-ridden. What changed or happened? Is it stress or a new pattern? I have heard having an orgasm alleviates the pain, and can end it, but I doubt too many people want the mess or is interested in menstrual sex/masturbation, unless it's in the shower or their first/last day, as it tends to be the lightest or faintest for me anyway. Anyhow, it feels like I have the flu or am really sick. My mom warned me that as we age our cycles change, as she discovered this after she gave birth to my younger brother, but I don't have kids nor am I having sex. What gives? Should I be worried? I can't go through that kind of unspeakable pain every month. I wish I could be carried, massaged, and cheered up right now :-(. Any help ladies? Thanks!

  • I've also always had a pretty regular period. I can only think of a few times where stress has made it come late or early, but my pain is always the same. It can get pretty severe sometimes, but usually with some advil it's pretty tolerable. It's really unusual from what I know to have your cycle change that drastically. It could be that you're under a lot of stress, though. The types of food you eat can also affect your level of pain. A healthy diet in general can help decrease pain level.

Also, I've always heard that exercise can help alleviate pain, but a few months ago when I had my period, I decided to work out, and all it did was make the pain 10 times worse. I don't know why, because usually movement helps. So I would say avoid any intense workouts until you're finished your cycle.

I'm not a doctor so I don't know if that's what you have, but it's just something to consider.

A microwavable heat pack, some cozy blankets and Advil usually helps me. Laying down also seems to help. Oh, and I've heard about all kinds of cravings for food women get on their periods, but I lose my appetite entirely when I'm on it. I also become a mute, haha, because I tend to quiet up if I'm in a lot of physical pain. Talking just takes too much energy when I feel crappy. :P

    • Thanks for best answer. :)

  • I had incredible pms pain each and every month. Then recently when I was at the pharmacist buying painkillers the lady offered me a herbal pill. I wasn't sure about it at first and talked with my obgyn. once he said 'yeah totally. its safe I tell everyone to use it.' I started using and its working so well. I have like 2% pain now. <3 its a herbal hormone pill that fixes the menstural siclus disorder (or whatever that is called.. it means the stuff like the pain and tendernesses and aggressions everything of pms) I was unsure about using hormones but its been perfect so far. if you wanna know more you can send me a message or sth.

also try not to drink coke, coffee and that sort of things.

    good bye!

  • I have really bad cramps. All I have been able to do about it is take the pain away before it starts. I normally have to wake up earlier than normal, eat something small and take advil. Also taking advil also slows down, sometimes stops the flow of blood. I also use a heating pad. I have asked my mom about putting me on birth control. She said that birth control never helped her with the pain so she hasn't put me on it either. Sometimes working out helps with the pain but not always. Also, bananas help with the pain too.

    • never heard about the banana thing before? Interesting...hmm I'll def take that into consideration. Thanks! Jamaica Outttttt

  • my periods used to be so painful too ..i could hardly sit straight or walk ..anyway what I did was -- a week before I start ,i take pills (aleve) like 3 a day. It worked for me ,these days I hardly get cramps. Even when I get them, they aren't as painful as they used to be. Working out also lessens the pain.

    • Thank you. I heard about taking the meds a week in advance, but I could never remember, as I never used to go through the pain, but that has changed. I guess I'll have to add that to my regiment. Jamaica Outttttt

  • it changes a lot after you age. I used to have heavy periods with virtually no cramps but now it's super light with terrible cramps. try putting a heating pad on your abdomen...stress can make it worse also. I've never heard the orgasm thing but I doubt it would really help all that much and sex on your period can be kind of gross so unless you have a serious boyfriend I woulld advise against that haha...but just relax and use a heating pad. your symptoms are pretty serious so go to the doctor (they will probably put you on birth control) it should help but could cause you to lose your sex drive and become more moody, but it also clears your skin and helps tremendously with cramps...hope this helps!

    • Thanks girl. I regularly work out, but I just can't right now. I feel a little better, but my joints are still weak, and my back is killing me. I'll def try the heating pad or the heated seats in my car haha. Yeah I get pretty quiet when I'm sad, sick, or if I really like someone also. Yeah I'll def get to the doctor. I've heard about the skin thing on the pill which is always a plus, but I don't want to gain weight or become a bitch. That's not my M.O! Thanks! Jamaica Outtttttt

  • drink milk

    smoke kush

your cycle does change as you age. when I was younger I used to not have pms at all, now that I'm in my early 20s, this past year I have moderate cramps and I get really really moody. in the next couple years you might change again

    • smoke weed? I'm supposed to smoke to feel better? Seriously, what does the milk do? Thanks! Jamaica Outttttt

    • yeah I used to smoke a lot and it helps with the cramps and I read that milk helps with cramps too. I tried it and it does work but I hate milk

    • Haha "but you hate milk", I'm sorry honey. I'll def take your advice. Thanks! Jamaica Outttttt
