How can I go on the pill without my parents finding out?

So I decided I want to have sex and before you say I'm too young I'm 17 and over here the legal age to have sex is 16. I want to go on the pill because its works better than condoms and Id be scared if it ripped, but I don't think my mum would be happy to find out I'm having sex. Where can I get a hold of the pill anyway is there stores you can buy them in? I know you can get condoms in stores and that would the same apply to pills or would I have to go to a doctor I really don't want to?

  • I assume you're in the UK?

Go to your doctor or nurse and ask to go on it - they're not allowed to tell your parents, and they'll be able to choose one which is best for you - there are different ones, that suit different needs.

I'm pretty sure they need to be prescribed anyway - because in a very small number of cases the pill can't be taken because it would be dangerous to the woman's health, so a doctor or nurse needs to make sure you're able to take it.

Plus it will be helpful, they'll tell you exactly what to expect, when you need to take it, what to do if you miss one etc.

But - use condoms too - the pill only protects against pregnancy and not stds.

  • You can't buy the pill from a store. It has to be prescribed to you by a doctor. The doctor cannot tell your parents anything; however, your parents will get the bill in the mail. Do you have an aunt or another older female in your family you can talk to?

    • And you have to have all of your parents' insurance information.

    • NHS doesn't work like that in the UK - and seen as the legal age for sex where she's fro is 16 - I'm guessing she's from the Uk.

    • oh god lol never mind ill just use a condom just thought pills were more reliable

  • Go to planned parenthood. And use BOTH a condom and the pill, neither is 100% accurate, and the pill won't protect you from STDs

  • go and see your doctor. They are not allowed to tell anyone- including your parents- about it and they can also put you on the right one, as there are many types of pill...it will also be free on the NHS. I assume you are from the UK

    • nothing to be embarrassed about tho. If you get embarrassed then should you be having sex?

  • You have to see your doctor.

Your mother doesn't have to go with you, if you're above the legal age.
