Why do so many women love the idea of being a model?

I just can't get my head around why the are so interested in being photographed in "erotic" positions, either in bikini's or underwear to being naked or topless. Why is this so appealing to so many women, I am speaking in terms of the ones that end up in magazines or guy sites. The majority of the guys buying them are probably not the type they would be interested in but are the ones buying it and wacking off to your pics. (probablly fat and old) Why do you like this?

  • Good question, I've wondered the same thing. I'm sure it has to do with girls wanting to be beautiful and everything. I just wish more girls would understand that:

#1 - half the models out there are only beautiful to the subjective opinions of whoever photographed them (we all have different tastes)

#2 - a beautiful girl is so much more than a girl with a good body.

Also, personally, models intimidate me, and I wouldn't want to date one for that reason, as well as the fact that they usually tend to know/flaunt that they're beautiful, which is a huge turn-off. Even though girls want to be models, I hope most of them understand that being an attractive girl outside of the model industry is probably much more beneficial

    • > Has never met a model

    • Ok, let me make this clear, I was talking in general terms, most of my friends who model are healthy girls in college who are not cocky. However, they still intimidate me, and because of that I would rather find a girl just as good-looking and date her instead. Please don't take things I say personally, or make assumptions about me, it's simply my personal experience.

  • because that's exactly what they want dude, they want the whole world to jerk off to their pictures, knowing that none of those guys can have them

    that or...

  • Well if you're talking about the girls that you see on sites that are offering themselves up, it's most likely because they get paid for it. They get paid for what they do on those sites. Same thing goes for magazines. A lot of them get themselves re-sculpted (ow?!) for those pictures.

If you're talking about the girls that your friends with on Facebook that takes pictures of herself in front of the mirror in her bikini in the bathroom is probably just looking for attention, really.

    • of course they get paid and this is about "professional" models

  • Why do so many women want to be models?

I have a better question: Why do so many guys want to date a model?

Maybe the number of guys wanting to tap that has something to do with why women want to model. And, unfortunately, a lot of girls cannot get paid modeling gigs without taking off their clothes. Soo... these girls end up with creepy photographers making money off them. In my opinion, the industry it too closely resembles prostitution. But I don't see anything changing now or in the future.

    • I don't want to date a model, they are stuck up and skinny twigs.

    • You might not go for stuck up twigs, but a lot of guys go for sexy, confident women.

    • Who are you to judge what a woman is to do with her body? What if she WANTS to take off her clothes?

  • I dont think im tall or skinny enough tio model. But if i did, I'd look into sports modeling like Gabrielle Reece. I dont think that would be considered "erotic"

  • Beauty is the most important thing in this world...who doesn't want to be recognized, paid for and worshipped for their beauty?

  • Personaly I have liked modeling since I was little. It fun I love getting my picture taking and I love the art of it. How you can espress so man emotions in one picture, how it makes memories last forever. I love seeing the beauty that can come of even something ugly. A pictiure really is a million words and its just to hard to write them all down. It can bring a million emotions and thoughts it's not just about being pretty and in a bikini.

  • I love modeling! It's the best job ever, and I NEVER shoot pictures like the ones you described. Not all modeling is about those pictures/ types of pictures.

  • To disrespect and question modelling is an act of faux-cynicism and reeks of psuedo-intellectualism. It is an art form, despite what hackjobs the anti-media perpetrate about it.

    • People think modeling takes no talent or hard work. If that's the case, why is it so hard to become a model? Not everyone can be Kate Moss or Tyra Banks. That took talent Modeling is one of those things that is something you can either do, or can't. It can't be taught or learned. It's a natural art. I'm not a model, but it's obnoxious how people degrade it.

    • I agree with you.

    • peace-love-couture - you are deluded. You just make up terms such as "natural art". Let me tell you what an art is... it's helping a sick dying patient by having the 'talent' to put in a cannula and administer medication, it's being able to use effective language to defend an innocent man in court. This is art. Not this bull**** modelling which tells people how to walk - an aspect of human anatomy which is INNATE, UNTAUGHT and SIMPLISTICALLY SUBCONSCIOUS.

  • Because it makes them think that they're more beautiful than the average woman and it's an easy and quick way to make money solely based on looks.

I hate the idea of modeling, and I would never even think to become one. I've had people tell me that I should consider it but, f*** that. I'd rather get an education and do something more meaningful in my life.

    • Elitism

    • No. I hate what modeling represents these days. It makes us women so insecure about ourselves that they feel like they have to go to drastic measures, such as plastic surgery, to be considered beautiful. It basically dictates who and what is beautiful, and if you don't fall along those lines, you're not beautiful. It has nothing to do with me thinking that I'm above models. Those tall, skinny, and beautiful models make me feel short, fat, and not worthy of male attention.

    • You don't have to stop getting your education to model. Whoever told you that was out of their mind. Most models are enrolled in college.

  • I enjoy modeling because it's fun. And why is it bad to be sexy? I work for a paysite, and it boosts my libido. You're gonna judge me for being sexually liberated female, then that's not fair. What's wrong with a woman enjoying her body? When will we stop this Puritanical desexualization of women, and start allowing us to draw our own boundaries based upon the individuals personal comfort level?

  • You seem to have a very generalized false view about most models, assuming that all models are skinny twiglike girls and some of the people answering seem to think all models are dumb or anything like that which is very false. Being a model is fun, makes you feel confident, and unless you are doing runway, most models are NOT in fact twiglike in any way, and have very healthy sexy bodies and enjoy their jobs,

    • I understand what you're saying, and I'm not saying to get rid of models or anything, but I wish that more girls would realize that they don't have to be models to be beautiful. I have nothing against models, I have many friends who love to model! It's just heartbreaking when a girl loses self-confidence because she thinks she's not "model-material."

  • they are lazy

    • lol, it is true to an extent its so much easier to just get photographed

    • yeah of course, it requires no education, and no real work

  • Usually good money if your with a reputable agency. Hmm modeling is a form of self expression, it's creative, it's artistic, it's fun, and you get to "pretend". It's a lot like acting. Some people model to put themselves through school, some do it because they are interested in acting or in fitness ( it's interrelated), or they are interested in the hair and makeup industry. It's definitely better than being a prostitute. It's not easy, but it's fun. It can be a gateway into entrepreneurship, fitness, fashion, etc. Plus it can boost one's self esteem, and it can help the model feel independent.

  • What is the purpose of modeling and why is it important?

  • because models are beautiful and everyone is obsessed with beauty

    • you stole my answer :)

    • not really attracted to models at all
