Why is it wrong for a man to dress like a woman but it's OK for a woman to dress like a man?

Women have come along ways from "the old days" where they didn't have many rights one of which included not being able to dress like a man...however men have always had the ability to be able to dress like a woman, but why is it so wrong to do this?

  • Of course neither is illegal, if you want to dress like a girl, go ahead. But it's less socially acceptable because I think that many people (particualry us men) see dressing as a woman as 'downgrade' while dressing as a man is seen as 'upgrade'

    In the Buisness world men are still often given more respect which makes logical for girls to dress more masculine, while it doesn't make much sense for a man to dress feminie.

    Another thing is that it's easier to imitate the male figure. If most women would cut their hair short and dress in mens clothing they could go through as young or weak men, while men in women's clothing often just look stupid

  • Wrong? To who? If some dude wants to put on a dress and heels, that's his business.

  • I've heard a theory about this once;

    Women are "allowed" to dress like men because it's natural to want to get higher status, but a man dressing up in clothes that are labelled feminine is "downgrading" himself. If a girl is told to have balls she's cool but if a guy is a p**** he's less worth. It's in the mentality that women are not as much worth as men :) It's only a theory thou and there might be several other factors too it.

  • Iv seen men dressed like women, I usually just think they're gay.

    Do you want to put on a pretty dress and twirl around in a field of flowers? If so do it who cares?

    Are you the same guy that's always asking 'why can girls do this and men cant' I'm just curious

  • u can do what you want, its just not attractive. I'm not attracted to guys who dress like women, its gay but I won't hate you or look down on you for it

    • Your last sentence sort of negates the first sentence. If you think I'd be gay for it then how could you not hate or look down on me for it?

    • i don't hate or look down on gays.

  • I don't care if a man dresses like a woman or vice versa.

  • Rules and hang ups are not always rational. Personally I don't care what people do as long as they are not hurting anyone else.

  • society. just do it if you want to and screw what other people think

  • dude if you want to dress in drag go for it

  • It is unwritten rules of society. Men are gentlemen unless proven otherwise. I think this came from King Lear "Clothing defines the man"
