Recurring yeast infections?

I've had chronic, nonstop yeast infections for 2 years after being on birth control pills so I got off and now the yeast infections will not go away. I've been on EVERYTHING including prescribed and overcounter meds, cotton underwear and loose fitting clothes, staying away from sweets, milk, bread and foods that flare it up. I've tried garlic cloves up me and yogurt tampons and nothing helps. my Dr. already knows about this but nothing still. any ideas on how to get rid of it?

  • yes, yeast infections can present themselves as a chronic condition. I've had a couple in the past month and a half (I had never had one before) and so looked at quite a bit of stuff online. I tried some of those home remedy things but they didn't work and/or seemed to make it worse. Also, I discovered that my soap (just normal, unscented bar soap which is what they usually tell you to wash with) was irritating it more. So basically, don't put anything down there at all aside from baby wipes. They really sooth the area and instead of trying to wash yourself at all in the shower, use a baby wipe. it's really important to make sure the area stays as dry as possible. After getting out of the shower, dry the area really well before putting anything on at all. You may want to sleep bottomless for a while too. With the over the counter stuff, don't choose the 1day or 3day. Go for at least the 7 day treatment - it's much more effective. Also, go to the store and buy some probiotics (usually in capsule/pill form) and take them every day. You could even take a slightly larger dose than instructed, it won't hurt you. The bacteria in probiotics (which is why they tell you to use yogurt tampons) fights the yeast infection bacteria. That's all I can think of for now, if I come up with anything else I'll let you know. Good luck!

  • So I had a similar issue. I was on the pill for 6 months and I got 6 yeast infections, always on the day I started the hormone free pills and it always took two weeks of prescribed meds to clear it up. Fluconazole was the stuff I was on and it helped and quickly but I was on double doeses as my doctor prescribed because they kept coming back. After 6 months of that nonsense I tried changing birth control. I figured since the hormone levels dropped off slowly over 3 months I'd go with the depo shot since my yeast infections seemed to correlate with the hormone drop off in my body. Its been two months and I'm still in the clear.

  • Either it's a misdiagnosis or the natural substance in your vagina has been severely altered that it is not getting rid of bacteria on it's own. For example from too much douching. It can also be from having intercourse if you are still sexually active. Maybe the guy isn't cleaning himself or it's his sperm itself that is causing this infection.

    • im not sexually active with anyoneand haven't been for awhile and the tests all come back as a yeast infection. I also don't douche

  • My girlfriend says you probably have a bacterial infection, not a yeast infection. Tell the doctor to test for that instead.

    • they did test for it and it comes back where its not
